Sometimes I'm jealousE

of you city dwellers because you can walk to a restaurant and don't have to get in your car to drive everywhere. I think it would be really awesome to take the subway or train to work (although, in practice, I know I would have germ related anxiety). However, I think living here has killed any part of me that would enjoy that. I think I have become country-fied or something. The low cost of living and large, open spaces have taken over me!

Re: Sometimes I'm jealousE

  • I am a city dweller (for IA anyway) and I still have to drive places.

  • Living in the city is teh ossum. I wish we made more money so we could afford to do it right. People who live in the city are either rich or poor. I used to be poor enough to live in the city, but not any more.
    ..
  • it is as awesome as it sounds, i cannot lie.

you just need to live in a suburb. my apartment is in a really nice residential area and there's a lot of ....i guess you'd say "nature" around which makes it a lot different than living right in the city. but the trains and subways were not very far and we were able to walk to almost EVERYTHING we wanted to do or see.

although, i could probably adapt to a low cost of living. i really don't know what that is like, but i would need to know there's delivery.

  • I definitely miss being able to walk anywhere I wanted to go, in theory. In practice, I hated having to walk everywhere when the temperature was under 60 or over 80.
  • I'm on the same page min. I adore looking at cities, like San Francisco, but when I go there and am among the people/riding the transit system/shopping I get claustrophobic and I hate people. Also, traffic makes me stabby. And once you start looking up close, it's dirty.

  • My ex lived in a small, rural town but he lived in the middle of town, so he could walk to bars and retaurants, but would still have to drive to the grocery store or mall (where they had a nice, big lots). It was the best of both worlds, except, well, he was there ;)

  • i agree with Ww...i wish we lived smack dab in the city. we actually looked at each other the other night during some show and said this exact thought.

as much as i enjoy a yard and trees and whatever, i envy people who live in a high rise on a busy street and walk downstairs to whatever restaurant/cafe/bar they want and never need a car ever Ever EVAR.

  • I live in the middle of my little town so I am within walking distance of several restaurants, a movie theater, the park, the university.  I've even walked to my doctor's office before.  But...walking to the coffee shop on the other side of the main drag through town is kind of scary because this town isn't very friendly to pedestrians.  Cars just aren't used to seeing people on foot in their way.

Oh, and that 2+ hour drive to the airport is annoying.  I miss my location in St. Louis where I could walk to all of the same kind of places I can walk to now but I could also hop on public transportation and get to lots of other places (although St. Louis is far from being a public transportation friendly city, you still have to own a car).

I just a friendly gal looking for options.

  • We've thought about moving to San Francisco, but with DH's work hours it just doesn't make sense to add to his commute. It's probably for the best, though. I think the hills would kill me.
  • public transit makes me stabby.
  • I love love love San Fransisco. Although, in any city, I'd probably be a HUGE baby if it were ever too hot or too cold and I had to walk anywhere.

  • DH & I both work in Providence but NEVER go out there (we literally live across the bridge from downtown) because both parking & public transit suck.  We got out to Boston way more because we can take the commuter rail & be there in 45 minutes & the T goes everywhere in the city.
