Make sure you're up to date on your vaccinations, too. Not sure if any of you heard about this woman, but she's a photographer in Hawaii, and she recently lost her 8 month old son to pertussis. They say most kids contract it from their parents, so make sure you and your DH get a tDap booster because I think babies aren't immune until like 18 months even if they get the vaccines on schedule. Scary stuff.
I made B get a tDap booster and I'll get one before I'm discharged after I give birth.

Good reminder.
I am actually going to go get a whooping cough vaccination after bub is born because apparently most bubbas that get it now contract it from their parents. It's going around at the moment in my part of the woods.
*Unless pertussis IS whooping cough. I was reading about vaccinations two nights ago but I forget which one pertussis is...
ETA: Ok, so I'm a tool lol! Pertussis= whooping cough. Glad we're on the same page
Amen to this. I got in a very minor debate with a coworker about it the other day...she doesn't believe in vaccines and thinks the sudden outbreak of whooping cough here is just a coincidence. I moved to the agree-to-disagree stage pretty fast because I didn't want it to turn into something nasty, but those parents frustrate me. It's not just about you and your child, it's about everyone else's children as well...what if you or your child contract whooping cough or whatever and are fine, but then give it to a kid with an autoimmune issue and they end up dying? I see vaccines as part of a social contract, in a way - not just for the safety of your own family, but for everyone's.

It's a long article but it's a very worthwhile read on childhood vaccines:

Lori, that's good they made him get it. I only had to get a tetanus booster for my nursing program and I wish I had just gone ahead and gotten the tDap instead at that time. Never even thought about it though. Oh well.
