New to Oahu

Hey! I have been on island for a few weeks now! I've been looking for a job and having no luck at all! It's driving me crazy having nothing to do during the day and not having any friends. I hope this site will help me meet some people. My husband has introduced me to a couple of his friends, but I would like to make some of my own. Also he has at work the majority of the day, so i get pretty bored. We have been married for almost a month now and we get to move into our house on tuesday! I am so excited! If any one else is looking to meet some friends let me know! I would love to get lunch or go to the beach or something! : )

Good luck all newlyweds!

Re: New to Oahu

  • Hi Amber!  Welcome to the board, and to Oahu.  My husband and I moved here just over a year ago, so we are still pretty new to the island.  And I am also searching for a full time job, so I can relate to your frustration and the cabin fever.  Best I've been able to land is a part-time retail job at the mall.  Don't want to be a debbie downer, but do be prepared for a long job search; it's just the reaility of things out here in this economy.

You guys military?  Where did you move from?  DH is a DOD civillian, which is how we ended up out here.

I think this board will help you meet new people, although not all the ladies on here are local, many just were married in Hawaii and became friends during the planning process.

Where on the island are you?  I'm always up for a trip to the beach, or lunch, but I don't have a car, which limits where I can go since I live in Kaneohe (I don't have the patience for a 2 hour bus trip to get into town).  That said, DH is leaving for Korea next month, so I will have a car, and a ton of time on my hands after he leaves!

You on facebook?  If so, we should connect there!

  • Welcome to the board! :) Becky is right, some of us girls were married in Hawaii (like myself) and some live there as well.  Best of luck with the move to your new house, enjoy beautiful Oahu.

  • welcome to oahu! i'm jealous you live there :) like becky said, we were just married there and now only dream of living there ;) hope your transition is smooth!
  • Hi nice to meet you! Yea, last week I got fed up sending out resume's and applications. I was like let's just go to the mall and fill out a million apps so I can have something. I have never liked retail jobs, but they work. I am ready to take any job! So hopefully I will find one. : )

We are military and we are stationed on the MCBH Kaneohe. I don't have a car either, but if I give my husband a heads up I can take him to work or drop him back off after lunch so I can use it.

Where are you guys from? I'm from Austin, Texas and David is from Florida. We met through mutual friends in Texas.

But yea i have facebook. just look me up and i'll add you

  • Thank you everyone for the greetings and the good luck wishes : )
