Need Vendor Recs and Shower Ideas!

Hey ladies,

I'm planning a friend's baby shower for May 1st.  I'm so excited!! We just found out it's a baby girl so we are throwing around theme ideas now. The shower is going to be a bbq and it's coed, but we are still doing the traditional baby shower decor and some games as well.

Anyway, does anybody have a cake and/or cupcake vendor rec?  The one I usually use is unavailable.  I want a cute cake or cupcakes that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Also, what are your favorite cute decor ideas for baby showers?  I love the baby clothing line and also the diaper cake.

One more question, favorite games?  She wants the bottle drinking game and belly string game, but we want a couple of more.

Oh and any cutsie themes are welcome! :)

Re: Need Vendor Recs and Shower Ideas!

  • I've been to a few "candy land" showers and they were all adorable! It's fun to set up a candy and sweets buffet, make lollipop centerpieces, And you can use "Little girls are sugar and spice, and everything nice" on the baby shower invite :)

Also, I helped my coworker plan a garden fairy theme for her sister's baby shower and omg... it was absolutely beautiful. Everything was pink and green and purple tulle, and she made these gorgeous, glittery centerpieces with bright pink and purple flowers and fairy wands. The cake was covered with fairies and flowers and she bought these porcelain fairy dolls and arranged them all over the place. It was soooo cute. I wish I had pictures.

For my best friend's shower, we did Winnie the Pooh (since it's what she wanted) and I made these honey pot centerpieces with stuffed characters coming out of them and these little bees on wire, so they looked like they were flying. They were adorable, too.

We played a few games, including -

Who can name the most diaper bag items (we had a master list, and whoever got the most, won)

Guess the baby food flavor - We had couples spoon feeding each other different flavors of baby food. The girls fed the boys, so it was hysterical. We even bought them plastic bibs. We had five different flavors, stripped of the labels. Whoever got the most right, won.

You can't say the word "baby" or the mother's name: We played this game at a family member's shower and it was really fun (but be warned - people get CRAZY). When you walked in the shower, everyone got a plastic pacifier on a string to hang around their neck. At the beginning of the party, it was announced that if you heard someone say the word "baby" (I've also played where you can't say the mother's name) you could strip them of their pacifier necklace (which is where it gets vicious). Whoever had the most necklaces at the end of the party got a special prize.

Eli, I love all of your theme ideas!! If I was in charge, this shower would be totally out of control with the decor.  We are trying to keep it simple though and not spend too much so the more we can DIY, the better.

I love the candy land theme!  I am making the invites too and I think thats such a cute saying.

Oh and the feeding game is perfect for couples.  Thats why we like the bottle game too, good for couples as well.

I'm going to write you about your dad's bakery!

Duh, Publix! I'll get quotes from them too.

And yes I have heard of that blog!  We are just trying to keep it simple, so I'm trying not to go too crazy :)

  • I found this bridal shower bbq, but the decor is easily transferable to a baby shower. I thought it was cute for a bbq theme: http://bit.ly/cvp2qI

I would also suggest publix!you could get plain white cupcakes and then put little gingham cupcake flags in them

  • yea, I think we only paid $0.63 per cupcake when we ordered them from Publix for the wedding. and they were delish :)
  • You should definitely go on the bump and find out from there.  There's a mom on the S. FL board that does BEAUTIFUL cupcakes. And oh so yummy too!!

Also, if you go on the babyshower board on the bump you'll get TONS of ideas.

  • Thanks for the help, ladies!! Vicky, I love the BBQ theme idea.  We could do pink gingham since its a girl!

I'll post it on the bump too when it's closer.  We have held off on the planning for now!

  • A friend of mine makes delicious cakes and cupcakes.  you can visit her blog at http://toptiercakeshop.blogspot.com/
