I switched to shaving with baby oil a couple years ago, but I decided to change to a non-petroleum oil blend. I mixed up my first batch today and went with:
1 shot castor oil (emollient)
1 shot olive oil (thickening, seems to be good for skin)
4 shots canola oil (cheap base oil, anything would do to sub for this)
sprinkle tea tree oil (for antibacterial properties)
sprinkle grapefruit essential oil (for scent)
Smells nice, feels nice, and while I haven't shaved with it yet, I have great faith it will perform better than baby oil as it's more easily absorbed into the skin. I never cut myself shaving with oil, and my blades last much longer than they did with soap/gel.
Re: Today's project: homemade shaving oil
It only takes about a teaspoon a leg.
I've never noticed it being slippery.
Gave it a spin this morning, and I love it.
It's thicker than the baby oil was, so it sticks to my skin better and makes it easy to use a bit less. My skin is soft and moisturized, and shaving was quick and nick-free.
Try it!
Oh, I really want to try this! I hate regular shaving cream.
