BIG CHANGES!!! a lil long!
Well, K and I have a lot of things going on right now. K just got a job offer in Atlanta. She is to be a "Color Expert" aka Professional make-up artist at a Sephora store there. That means a salaried position (finally) with FULL benefits (including same sex partner benefits!!) Who knew people care so much about make up that you could make REALLY good money just making people look good. So it looks like we're making the move...soon. By the end of September.
We decided to give it a six month trial run. If we hate it, NYC will always be here. We'll be living in my mother's 2 bed room 2 bath condo. She bought it about 2 years ago but it's not close enough to here job so she's renting somewhere else. But if we stay, we're going to look into the Midtown section, or Decatur, which are REALLY gay friendly sections of town.(We saw one neighbohood with rainbow flags in front of almost every home. It was really cute) Although, I've been talking to people, and they say virtually all of Atlanta is gay friendly. That was really bothering me at first... not knowing how we'll be accepted. Coming from NYC, you know? But I thought about it. There are some places even here that K and I aren't totally comfortable showing affection. A guy even spat (yes! really!) at us a couple of weeks ago because we were holding hands... in Brooklyn!
I"m excited all in all. This is actually a really good way for us to save money! I'll be making the same as I do now, K more than she does now. The cost of living is MUCH lower in Atlanta. And my mom's condo is payed for! So now maybe we'll be out of debt sooner than later!!

I'm a straight girl but I grew up in Atlanta and have many gay friends. Decatur is actually a really popular gay area(and less expensive then Midtown). Its not uncommon for same-sex families+kids !!!
to be seen around. Its a very open minded city. I highly suggest you check into it. I'm suprised most people assume Atlanta isn't gay friendly when really its the exact opposite.
Good Areas:
Decatur
Virginia Highlands (my favorite and where I used to live!)
Little 5 Points
Midtown
Stay away from:
Buckhead etc, on the northern part of the city it gets more expensive and theres less to do.
If your wife is working at sephora at lenox mall then fron Decatur or Little 5/Midtown its about 20 min max down Pedimont Ave.
Good luck with everything!!!!
