I've decided to do two in-ground gardens in my backyard, one area receives full sun all day and the other is always shaded.
I downloaded a lettuce garden plan from BH&G and it says lettuce should be planted in the shade, is this true? If so, I have a large area perfect for a lettuce garden!
What other veggies/herbs grow well in the shade?
Not sure if this matters but I live in an area where it easily gets over 100 degrees in the summer and fall.

This is the area I have for the lettuce garden, it hasn't been prepped as you can tell from the fence railings and tree stump/branches on the right. It will start about a foot away from the base of the plants in the back and will stop about a foot away from the tree, about 4' front to back. As you can see, this area gets shade/dappled sunlight (pic taken at 9:30am for reference) throughout the day. The climbing plants on the back wall cannot be taken out or cut level with the top of the wall, they provide a sound barrier and protection from people jumping the wall (there is a main street on the other side of that building back there).
