netflix/wb deal

i don't think i've seen a post about this...?

http://news.cnet.com/8301-31001_3-10426792-261.html

netflix signed a deal with WB saying they won't be mailing WB released movies until 28 days after the street sell date?! ugh.

its supposed to expand the streaming video options, but seriously?? 28 days is a long time to wait to be able to get new releases! warner bros is a huge studio!

Re: netflix/wb deal

  • No  I never expected to get new releases quickly, but this is going to slow it down even more.  I'm wondering if we should switch to Blockbuster now.
  • That is why i can just now get four christmases. It really makes me mad, but it is because dvd sales are down. There is talk that even Red Box will have to wait to release movies!
  • As streaming gains more popularity, you'll probably see more deals like this. It doesn't bother me, honestly. It's actually a really good deal for everyone involved. Netflix gets more streaming content (which customers seem to want more than discs), Warner Brothers gets the chance to sell more discs to their hardcore audience. And I suspect the majority of Netflix users don't actually miss new releases.

But, yeah, if you move the newest movies to the top of your queue immediately, it kind of sucks.

  • I think it's awesome.  I love that I can stream netflix movies from our DVD player but right now there aren't that many to choose from.  This should increase the selections a lot.  With discs, I have to choose the movie ahead and I never know what I am going to be in the mood for until I sit down.  So I much prefer streaming.
