My DH and I are planning on a visit to Chicago..please help

Hi Ladies.

I am from Ohio and usually post on the Indiana board (since I live very close to Fort Wayne) anyways I had a question about your city.

My wonderful DH booked us a 2 nights in Chicago for the end of the month and we are still deciding on what we want to do while we are there.  I want to see the Navy Pier but I don't know how much shopping he is going to want to do.  I have never been to Chicago and he was there once when he was 8 yrs. old.

Any one have great suggestions for seeing Chicago and where to eat.  We are staying at the Blackstone Renaissance Hotel.

Thanks for any and all help.

  • Ok, you're staying very close to Museum Campus (where a lot of the museums are -- Art Institute, Planetarium, Aquarium and more!), but very, very far (ok, walkable, but maybe not at the end of February) from Navy Pier. Take a cab there.

For the area you're staying in, I say go to the Aquarium, visit the Art Institute (Hey! It's free all month, which is a huge bonus!), you can eat pizza at Lou Malnati's (it's not my favorite, but it's local and very popular!), have breakfast at the Eleven City Diner, and eat another dinner at Opera (pan-Asian if you're into that kind of thing). All of this is in the neighborhood you're in.

If you want to travel, you can always head up to Navy Pier, and while you're up that way check out Michigan Ave (it's worth visiting once since you've never been, but don't plan to shop unless you're a serious shopper!), and check out the Hancock Building. If it is a clear day you can see almost forever from the top. But don't take the elevator to the outlook deck. Have a drink in the bar. It will cost you about the same, and be much more enjoyable!

I hope this helps! If you're interested in a specific activity, let me know what it is and I'll provide a recommendation to you!

  • Thanks for all your help..I really appreciate it.
