Computer Question

So we have a thing here that I registered for called Teacher Recruitment Day. Basically you pay like $7 upload your resume and and districts start reviewing resumes in March and then you may get called for an interview in April. The problem is I have 2 versions of my resume saved (Word 97-2003 another on the newer vista word). I have had problems with people not being able to open them depending on whatever Word they use. So I don't know what one I should upload....any suggestions?

Re: Computer Question

  • 07 Word docs should open in compatability (sp) mode without issues in older versions of word unless you're using any newer elements such as SmartArt.  If you're concerned people will continue to have issues with the newer version, just upload the 97-03 version.

  • That's a great question.  I just applied for a few jobs and sent my resume under vista.  I didn't even think about that....dang it.  I would think most institutions have updated but maybe send it as 97-03 just in case.  I have vista and can open any documents in word (97-03).
  • Thanks! I will do the 97-03 version of it and hope that everyone can open it!

  • use the older one...we've had all kinds of problems!

  • Can you print it to an Adobe file?  I think would be even better yet.

  • I could do Adobe...I am not very familiar with it so I'll see what I can do! I was thinking of sending it that way too since it should not be such a hassle opening it

I second Adobe, or save it in rich text format (.rtf) under the "Save As" menu.  RTF can be opened by any version of Word...including on Macs.  Much of my Masters program is online, and we have to upload files all the time.  Since all of us use different word processing softwares, we're required to save assignments in RTF for compatibility purposes.
