BR: Breastfeeding.com

Hey ladies,

Have you seen this?

http://www.breastfeeding.com/

Apparently it's affiliated with The Bump.  I came across it today because I think I am having rapid let down issues that are causing Libby to cough/choke and also spit up.  It's just been the last two days.  So I am switching to just BFing on one side per feeding to see if that will help.  Anyway, I found the website to be most helpful and wanted to share.

Re: BR: Breastfeeding.com

  • I haven't seen that site.  I live and breathe by kellymom.com

I have a forceful letdown too and I feel bad when A pulls off the boob and gets sprayed in the face with my milk!! The other day we had a first though....she pulled off and I got sprayed in the face! I've tried nursing on just one side and some block feeding as well but we still have issues.  She does still continue to mostly nurse on just one side during each nursing session now (it's kind of weird to have one boob feel so much bigger than the other Stick out tongue) It definitely helps to nurse in the side lying position so I nurse that way 99% of the time now...and she gets better and better at handling the excess milk.... I'd say that 75% of the time she just keeps on chugging (I do hear a lot of clicking though as she latches on and off, trying to deal w/it) and the other 25% of the time she pulls off.  Of course even if she doesn't pull off, this causes her to swallow a ton of air so she always has these huge burps after eating and often gets really fussy in the middle of nursing and needs to burp before she can finish.  I thought it was just when I was engorged but I've seen my milk spray when my boobs are really soft too, so we are just dealing w/it as best we can.

I love KellyMom.com too.  I also have LLL's "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding"...I am glad to know I am not the only one with a forceful let down.  I feel so bad when Libby barfs up everything she's just worked so hard to get down.  I am burping her more often and letting her sit up right for 10-15 minutes afterwards and that has seemed to help with the spit up.

  • If it makes you feel any better I had the same issue and still do when I get engorged. It's gotten way better so don't give up!  We side nurse, I lean back in the recliner with Ashton laying on top of me (he doesn't love this position) as well as hand express to help with the spraying in the face.

Jamie and I have emailed regarding this but I did forget to mention this to her so I'll let it out here. I do have an issues and I think it is due to Ashton chocking, being sprayed in the face, our short nursing sessions due to those issues and his frustration; we nurse a lot ....still....like every few hours at the minimum when I am with him. At day care he doesn't eat a whole lot (only about 15 ounces for 9 hours some days) and will only take a few ounces at a time.  I think this has lead to our sleep issues (he wants to nurse ALL.NIGHT.LONG).  This may just be my issues:-) but thought I'd thought it out there in case so that you can fix it before it does become an issue.

It sounds like you are doing great Lori!  It is such a wonderful gift we are blessed to be able to provide for our little ones. I've almost made it to my 6 month mark and home to make it to a year at least.  Everyone always comments on how big he is (at least over 20lbs now) and I am so grateful that I've been able to provide this nourishment for him to be this big and strong:-)

I think that thankfully, A isn't too traumatized by it...or maybe i just recognized the problem early...but if she is hungry, she will continue to nurse as usual after "dealing" with the forceful letdown...and it hasn't trickled over into a sleep problem.  sorry you are dealing w/that Renee, i hope it gets better!
