The IL's live on lake Winnisquam and they have been having terrible thunderstorms up there. The IL's were out and I guess a guy and his three kids were out on the lake when the storm started. He moored his boat on their dock and kicked a screen in the house to get in from the storm. My FIL left a window open by mistake and the dude kicked in the screen. Dave got a call from the security company saying that the alarm went off and the guy picked up the phone and told her he was seeking shelter. Needless to say, there is an awning at the front of the house that would have protected them just fine from the storm if they had gone around front. My MIL went up there and they police didn't arrest or hold him saying that it was an "act of god". She was pissed!!! She is going to have a chat with the leiutenant this morning about the incident.
What dumbass doesn't check the weather forecast before going for a boat ride? Anyway, that was the excitement from last night! A little scary! I think my poor FIL is going to get holy hell from my MIL about leaving a window open...
Re: Someone broke into IL's house last night! (long)
I agree.. Breaking into someones house is breaking into someone's house. No matter what the reason is.
Now, they did not hold him, or arrest him? Who is going to pay for the damages for HIM breaking into the house? That is just messed up. I would def. push to press charges. I understand the whole protect the kids thing, but im sure he wouldnt have had to break things in order to do so. Or he could have stood under the awning. Grrr... i think some people are just plain DUMB
Oh boy, would I be pissed too......stretching reason i could see taking shetler under somebody's porch MAYBE if a thunderstorm caught me by surprise but certainly not breaking and entering into someone's home!!!!
And the fact that we had late-afternoon thuderstorms yesterday should have taken NO ONE by surprise as we have had them just about every day for a few weeks now!
Did the guy know the cops or have some sort of connection, I wonder?
It wasn't the insurance company that deemed it an "act of god"...it was the Meredith police. I think MIL and the police department "had words" this morning...regarding this "act of god"
I just can't get over the fact that this guy thought it was a good idea to break in without looking around the other side of the house for the awning.
It's not like they were the only house around...they have neighbors on either side of them, I'm sure someone had a light on! Dumbass!
