Someone shoot me

My friend was due a week after me and she gave birth on Thursday.  My friend's wife wasn't due until the 28th and her water broke and they are at the hospital now.  I'm dying here.

I wanted to work this week if I didn't give birth by tonight, but my belly feels so heavy and uncomfortable that I can't imagine having to work a 12 hour shift at this point.  It wouldn't be so bad if I had a desk job and could sit at work the whole time...UGH.  So now I'm wasting my FMLA waiting around for this baby to make her appearance.  And I'm getting depressed.

I thought today was gonna be the day b/c I had contractions last night that were 10 min apart for several hours.  Not painful, but consistent.  I was really hoping I'd wake up in full on labor but no such luck, and, in fact, I've had way less contractions today.  Totally TMI but I lost my MP on Friday and had bloody show today so I'm crossing my fingers that labor will start within the next couple days (even though I know all that could mean absolutely nothing).

Re: Someone shoot me

  • Good luck! I can't imagine going full term since my water broke at 35 weeks. I also never went into labor though, they ended up having to induce me because contractions never started. So I hope your luck is better than mine and everything starts up on it's own! I've heard walking, sex and nipple stimulation help, but I never got to that point! :)
  • I answered your post on FB but I'll add one here too...

Your baby will be here soon enough sweets. I know it's easier said than done but stop watching the clock! The whole 'a watched kettle never boils' theory and all...

    You're torturing yourself here lol!

In the meantime, try to enjoy the last few days of quiet time and alone time with the hubby.

I DO know how ya feel hon. Again, you're almost there!

  • Awww! I TOTALLY know how you feel! Same thing happened to me! At least you don't have your parents and sister all staying with you in your house for a WEEK waiting each day for you to go into labor!

In the end, Alexa was a week late and born by induction. On the upside, since she was sooooo "cooked" she has been developmentally ahead, which is nice. And she was a good nurser from the start. So, there are benefits to having a late baby!

  • Ooh!  You're SO close...all signs are pointing towards labor.  Hang in there...FWIW I do have a desk job that I sit at all day and at 38 weeks my body couldn't hack that either.  I know it feels like you're "wasting" your FMLA, but your body needs the rest right now so you can be ready for the marathon that is L&D and of course, then coming home with baby which is also incredibly taxing and draining.

My advice?  Put your feet up, drink lots of water.  Walk for 30-60 minutes.  Repeat.  Maybe get a massage and have them rub those trigger points on your ankles, feet and shoulders (google accupressure for labor).  Also, sex with DH (it will be the last time in a while anyway, so might as well give it the ol' college try), nipple stimulation (can go along with sexy time...or not), thumb sucking (this is recommended by the Bradley Method...trigger point on the roof of your mouth).  If you have a yoga ball, bouncing on it can help too.

Good luck...you're so close.  How far past your EDD will your doctor let you go?

  • I was going to say the same as Lori, you are getting so close... hang in there, sending you lots of labor vibes... can't wait to see your LO! :)

  • Oh, no!  How about if I just "shoot" tons and tons of labor vibes your way?  :)  Not much longer now, and you'll be a Mama!!

  • Thanks, everyone.  It just sucks because I already used up 2 days of FMLA because of paperwork issues and 2 days pretty much equals one week for me.  So I'll only end up with about 10 weeks of leave, which I know will fly by.  Why didn't I just move to Canada when I found out I was pregnant?!?!?!  =P

If I make it to my appointment on Friday, I plan to schedule an induction for Monday or Tuesday because I don't want to go to 41 weeks and end up with only 9 weeks at home with baby.  My doctor already offered to induce me and said that my cervix is not one she's "afraid of" because it's soft and I'm already slightly dilated, plus baby is already at -2/-1 station.  I'm assuming the loss of MP and bloody show are also good signs and perhaps I'm a little more dilated than I was last week.

But hopefully this will become a moot point and I will go into labor SOON.  *crossing fingers*

  • Oooooh, sending you lots of labor dust!  Hope your little girl makes an appearance soon!

P.S. the cowmooflage is $229 on Amazon.  Not sure if it'll go down to $187 again.... crossing fingers for that, too!

  • I keep checking FB to see if you've gone into labor!! i'm sorry, i know that waiting is soooo hard but it seems like you're progressing really well... any time now, just stop getting so antsy and it will happen :) keep at those natural induction techniques, they can't hurt...

and, i know everyone says it, but enjoy your sleep right now and get some rest before baby comes!

  • You're so close now! I know it feels like you're wasting your time off, but try to enjoy the rest while you can - your body really needs it right now. It will happen soon - just hang in there!
  • oh Christine, I totally feel your pain. I know it may seem like your wasting time but believe me getting your rest now is the best posibble thing to do. Jaylee was born 1 week after my due date and I have to say it was a week I really needed. I don't think I mentally prepared myself for all of it so to have that extra week really did help. Rest up now,  cause I have a feeling she will be coming REALLY soon..
  • Awww, it must be hard waiting =/ Wishing you lots of labor vibes and hope your baby girl will make her appearance soon!
