But still, the extent of his douchiness surprises me. In addition to throwing "faithfulness" out of their wedding vows, there is this:
Mark Sanford skipping Lamaze classes when his wife was pregnant with their first child. "I've spent many long nights helping cows give birth and I know what to do when the baby gets stuck," the book quotes him as saying.
Whether or not you attend childbirth classes, you have to be a world class asshat to compare your wife's upcoming labor to a cow getting stuck giving birth.
And then there is this:
In the book's prologue, Jenny Sanford gives a moment-by-moment look into June 24, 2009, when Gov. Sanford announced to the world he'd been having a year-long affair and had just returned from a secret trip to Argentina to visit his lover.
Moments after the press conference ended, Jenny Sanford's phone rang.
"How'd I do?" asked her husband, wanting her to continue in her political consultant role.
"Are you kidding me? You cried for her and said little of me or the boys," Jenny Sanford writes in her book.
He sounds like a real prize, but it seems like she was pretty clear on the extent of his douchiness and put up with it for a long time.
Re: I know I posted that Mark Sanford is a douche
i heard Jenny Sanford on NPR this morning. I spent the whole time thinking, how does the interviewer prep for such an interview.
"hi, let's talk about your spouse cheating on you in front of millions of listeners/viewers."
i had the same thought whenever i hear Elizabeth Edwards being interviewed.
I heard that Jenny Sanford was going to be on and I was disappointed that I was pulling into work and was going to miss it.
I agree re: Elizabeth Edwards. I would feel like crap bringing it up, even though it's my job and we both know that's why she's there.
Fun fact: I heard about his press conference on breaking news as I was driving back to my office after what would turn out to be my very last OB appointment with the Woozle. I called DH and said, "Holy isht, you need to turn on the TV RIGHT NOW."
Three days later, I was in labor. Luckily we had attended childbirth classes, since DH doesn't have experience delivering calves that got stuck.
