I knew we were going to get hit pretty bad where I live, but I didn't know it would be like this. I live on the bay in Wildwood and woke up Saturday morning to a huge BOOM. We lost power and heat immediately and it didn't look promising to be coming back soon. I started packing bags right away to leave and tried calling my husband who went to the store to open for the road crews and fire dept. He had no power there and his cell was dead. I figured I would just pack and we could leave when he got home.
My cell rings a minute later and it is my neighbor telling me to move my car because the house it is parked at is on fire(summer home, so it was vacant). I look out and there are fire and police trucks everywhere. I had to dig out my front door and ran out in my pjs to ask the FD if I could move my truck because I need to leave and don't need it on fire. They told me to go back in until they get it under control. By now I am nearly panicing and trying to remember everything I need for Jack mainly, and still no way to talk to my husband.
15 minutes later I went out to talk to the FD again and explained this time that I had an infant and need my truck. The fire was still going, so they told me shortly. By then, my H was running down the street white faced because he didn't know what house they were there for. They let him move the truck and we packed up baby and both dogs and hit the road. The streets were a mess and the power lines were arching everywhere. There were utility polls down all over my street. I just felt like crying. We made it to Cherry Hill in about 3 hours.
Yesterday, H and my dad drove to the deli to donate our lunchmeats to the FD because the power was still off and they were only holding because of the temp outside. He went to the house and the PD said it could be a week before our power is restored. I'm happy we made it out, but boy was it exhausting and frightening.
Re: My Snow Adventure - long
I'm glad you guys made it out ok. That is one crazy, scary story!
My parents are in North Wildwood and their power just got restored last night. 2 days without power is crazy...let alone a week! I hope they get your power back on soon.
Hopefully the storm on Tuesday/Wednesday doesn't make the power go out again or delay people getting their power back down there.
Keep us updated, Deanna!
You are super mom.
I would've been balled up in a corner crying like a baby.
Oh I did at times, but then I realized we had to move now or we would only get snowed in worse. My dad said yesterday people were just walking around the streets dumbfounded because they didn't know what to do at this point. I didn't realize they declared us a State of Disaster in Cape May County. The Stone Harbor FD said they had 50 evacuations and City Hall was crammed with people.
Now I fear my pipes will freeze and burst in our house. Our pipes are all thread through the ceilings because we are over water so everything will be a mess/ruined. I'm happy we are all ok, but this just sucks. As much as I hate the traffic summer brings, I will take it now and year long.
Oh, I hope your pipes hold out, Deanna!!!
You are not having much luck with the snowstorms this year. I'm glad you guys got out ok, though, and hope it doesn't get worse.
Deanna, so glad you guys made it to CH safely! Hope your pipes stay in tact. that is scary, and I would have been freaking too.
I'm so glad you guys made it out ok...your husband must of been scared to death when running up the street!!!
I hope your pipes are ok and everything works out!!
Just checking in to see how this last storm affect you. We lost power last night from 7 until about 11 this morning and it sucked!
