Furniture Shopping Recommendations...

Hello!

My husband and I are starting the search to furnish our new home - a daunting task I know!  Any recommendations on places to shop for furniture.  We want to upgrade from our IKEA stuff finally.

We live on the northside of the city and are looking for some classic good quality moderately priced pieces (dining set, bedroom set, living room set etc...)  We'd love to hear of some other places to go besides Pottery Barn and Room and Board.  Thanks!!

Re: Furniture Shopping Recommendations...

  • We just ordered a bunch of new furniture from Crate & Barrel that we love, but we've also used Macy's furniture warehouse (they have a lot of good name brands at discounted prices -- it is kind of stressful there b/c there is typically one of each model available for sale and if you see something you like but someone buys it before you, you are out of luck. It's still worth checking out though). .
  • I've heard great things about Roy's Furniture on Sheffield in Lincoln Park.  They have really nice furniture at discounted prices. A friend got her bedroom set there and loves it and saw a similar one at Macy's that was a lot more expensive.

  • Check out European Furniture Warehouse (or something like that name) - it's on Grand, between Damen & Western.  They often have good sales.  Got some bar stools there and they have a lot of variety in terms of styles.
  • It sounds droll, but JC Penny has great furniture and their prices are fabulous. We got our couch and armchair from them.

Also, check out furniture.com. They've got tons of stuff, and are affiliated with various furniture and department stores around the country. If you see something you like, you can look up which stores in your area carry that item.
