10 things Tuesday

what are your 10 things?

Re: 10 things Tuesday

  • 1. Teething is h*ll. Annie went from one tooth to almost 4 in less than a week.

    2. I am already worrying about the snow we are supposed to get starting tonight. I will be home alone with Annie and I am not sure how I will go plow out for work.

    3. I really want a turkey sandwich on an everything bagel.

    4. Work blocked off all vacation time from June through September because we are short staffed. I have 9 weeks of vacation to use this year and I can't take it. If I don't use it I will lose it - I can only carry over 3 weeks. Another reason I hate my job.

    5. I almost constantly have a counting song from the FP learning table going through my head. Hopefully it will stick in Annies head as well.

    6. I think my dog misses our other dog. I really would love him to have a playdate with another dog, but the only other one in my neighborhood is a tiny little dachshound who tries to eat my dog even though he only comes part way up my dogs leg.

    7. I think I have a really big baby. I asked my friend who has a baby three weeks younger than Annie if she could use any extra size three diapers ( we just went up to 4's) and she said Addi was just moving into 3's. eek.

    8. I miss BFing Annie. I didn't think I would.,..but I do. I don't miss pumping though.

    9. I am soooo ready for a teething break.

    10. Off to deal with the Fuss.

  • 1. I seriously can't wrap my head around getting another 15-20" of snow tonight. We already have about 30" on the ground. My kids are only 38" tall.

    2.  I wasn't at work yesterday, I won't be here tomorrow, and I would be suprised if I got in on Thursday. This isn't how I wanted to use my vacation days. If we would have known how bad it was going to be, we would have gone to FL to visit friends.

    3.  I just got my Girl Scout cookies. YUM.

    4.  Carter woke up at 5am coughing and I couldn't fall back asleep after i got up and gave him medicine. I need a nap.

    5.  I am praying the neighborhood teens come back by tomorrow and want to make $$ helping me dig out again.

    6.  It took me 2 hrs to get to work this morning and I am sure it'll take me just as long, if not longer to get home. The roads are horrible.

    7. Carter fell in love with Toy Story sneakers he saw at the mall on Friday night and talked about them ALL WEEKEND LONG. Alas, they only came in medium width and he needs wide. I hunted online to no avail.  Yesterday I took them into a shoe store and he fell in love with some glow-in-the dark Stride Rites. Being the sucker I am, I paid full price (typially we buy at the outlet or when they are on sale) so I don't have to hear about "Buzz and Woody shoes" anymore. In any case, he loves them and they should fit till we get to Croc weather this summer.

    8.  I hate the new Facebook.

    9.  I can't believe I have another 3 hours of work.

    10.  Cymru - when the boys were teething, we dosed them with Tylenol (or Motrin - after 6m) every night for a month. It was the only way any of us got any sleep. I talked to the pediatricians I work with and they said it wouldn't cause any harm.

  • 1) we're getting a snow storm tomorrow so i'm working from home and andrea is staying home to watch the kids.  i'm dreading it...there is no way i'm going to get a single thing done w/ Sprout home.

    2) i'm way overdue for a trip to the dentist.

    3) after reading cymru's 10 things, i too have the counting song in my head.  its a catchy little tune....

    4) i want to see avatar in the theater but dont want to ask anyone to babysit.

    5) our dinners have been so uninspired lately.

    6) i dont know why i torture myself for checking out the r family vacations website.  If I cant take the kids out of the state, I certainly cant take them out of the country.

    7) i'm so f-ing annoyed that i have to sign an affidavit of domestic partnership to get benefits for my WIFE.

    8) and i'm even more annoyed that said benefits are terrible.

    9) I've already started searching the interwebs for the perfect easter outfits for the kids.

    10) i think Sprout might benefit from a speech eval but i'm not sure how to go about getting one done now that he's out of birth to three.

    10) i think Sprout might benefit from a speech eval but i'm not sure how to go about getting one done now that he's out of birth to three.

It is done through Child Find - through the school system.  Here is what I found online. Keep in mind that a mild speech delay is a "disability" so don't focus on that word.

Child Find is a component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA ?04) that requires each state to develop a statewide system for identifying, locating and evaluating all children with disabilities ages birth through 21 who are in need of special education and related services.

Parents or guardians, educators, physicians, referral sources and individuals who work with children, children ages 3-21 who believe that a child may have a disability and require special education services may call the Child Find Project at Connecticut Parent Advocacy Center (CPAC) at the toll free number, 1-800-445-2722, to speak with a consultant who can explain the identification process and help the family connect with their local school district as well as other appropriate agencies.

  • 1.  We are in the midst of a small snowstorm. I can't imagine how it is for all of you who are getting the big one.

    2.  One square a day of that yummy dark chocolate sea salt bacon bar.  yum.

    3.  I want starbucks but will hold out until pay day.

    4.  I am excited to leave a little early today even if it means working just a bit at home.

    5.  Why can't Ikea be closer?

    6.  I am excited with the very responsible things we are going to accomplish with our tax returns.

    7.  I hate the new FB too...what's new? What is an update?  Do I really care who became friends?

    8.  DW is getting a significant hair cut tonight. I hope she likes it!  She's going to my styllist so I feel oddly responsible.

    9.  I can't wait for spring.  40 more days?

    10.  TTT really helps me get to know you all better.

    how awesome are you?? thanks!

    1. Work just closed for tomorrow because of the storm we're supposed to get. Yay!!!!!!

    2. If it weren't for that I would be super annoyed about this snow. I'm a little sick of being buried!

    3. We took the pup for her shots last night and the beast weights 80lbs now. Holy crap. She not seriously overweight, but could stand to lose a few pounds, so now gets less food, plus all the veggies she wants.

    4. She loves green beans already, so she is seeing this as an awesome thing. We've also tried peas and carrots, also both winners!

    5. 2 weeks left until my due date. Um, wow.

    6. Doc appointment tonight and I'm really hoping that:
      a) she's moved down at least some!
      b) I haven't gained mucho weight since last week... we picked up some angel food cake this weekend, and lets just say that since then its won out over healthier options more times then I would like to admit.

    7. I really hope that the snow doesn't start earlier then expected and I can actually make the doctor appointment! Even though I feel her moving around, I still want these appointments to hear her heartbeat and know she's doing well.

    8. I have the worst heartburn right now. I already took a Zantac, but it doesn't seem to have helped. I might have to run out for some Tums. Ugh.

    9. Trav's cousin emailed me offering us a whole bunch of baby stuff. Its really sweet, but we either already have what she's offering, or didn't get an item because we don't have the room for it. The only thing I really considered was an infant carseat she offered, to have around as an extra... but its over two years old, and I just don't feel comfortable taking it... not to mention we already each have a convertible in our car. I feel bad saying no though.

    10. I'm hoping Trav has off tomorrow so we can have another snuggly day. Angel

No problem. It is part of what I do here at work - just a quick Google of Child Find Connecticut. :)  Hope it helps. Both of our kids were in speech and it helped a lot.

My dog loves sweet potatoes - if those are not too carby for your dog.  I just roast and peel them.  Also cucumber (and some you have already mentioned).

  • 1. My coworker baked cupcakes today - yummy!

    2. The baby's mattress should be on the doorstep when I get home.

    3.  Something is being planned around me but I don't know what.

    4. I finally have an intern at work. I hope she learns quickly how to take this project and run with it.

    5. After getting bids from various vendors for print projects I hate calling the ones I don't pick.

    6. The new FB format is annoying me and I think my status update thing doesn't work.  ::shrug::

    7. I ate two cupcakes. Do you think a third would be okay?

    8. A board of director's meeting at 8:30am tomorrow means I really should get back to work now.

    9. The bottom of my lunch bag fell apart so my dog got chips and salsa for lunch today. (She's here at work with me)

  • CT-Speech works wonders.  LMC has made huge progress.. Let us know how it goes :-)

    1. Our licensing check is this afternoon. I hope we are perfect and that we get approved for a third baby.

    2. We just finished up a review of the girls therapy. I was prepared for a big  battle but it looks like we will get to keep all of them for now. Thank G-d!

    3. We got the official paperwork asking that LMCs' fathers services be terminated. I am terrified to face all of them in court next month. Will you all come and hold my hand?

    4. I want a baby. It physically hurts to think I may never get to carry our child.

    5. PBS is going to be one next week! My baby is getting so big.

    6. I love our new sheets.  The are insanely comfortable. I love getting into bed!

    7. I need to vacuum, again.

    8. I have been having weird food cravings.  What is that about?

    9. I need to make a tutu for LMC. She was less than happy when she saw me making one for PBS' to wear to her party.  If looks could kill!

    10. I am excited to "meet'" all the almost-here babies :-)

    10. Is anyone else loving RuPaul's Drag Race Season 2? I love me some hot b!tches! :-)

I'm so excited that they're showing it on VH1 this time!! We had Logo last time around, but since we cut back on our cable service we don't anymore.  I missed the 1st episode, but I already set up a series recording to dvr every new episode from now on!! I loved the first season!!

    2. I also got to have cupcakes (2!) at work today - I love birthdays Wink

    3. We are moving in 4.5 weeks Indifferent  We have some serious packing to do.

    4. I want our loan commitment for the mortgage. Now.  I hate waiting!

    5. Our landlord is buying our dishwasher from us - now to convince him he should also buy the bamboo shades we put up...  We spent a good bit of money on them when we moved in, and have no use for them in our house, which has NOT ONE standard-ish size window in it.  I think they'd be a great perk for any renter since the apt. has so many freakin' windows, which get expensive to cover.

    6. Our apartment is being shown to prospective renters almost every day.  It's making me keep up with chores more than usual - or at least making sure our bras are put away!

    7. I'm working on compiling a job-manual of sorts for whoever my replacement is when I leave work - makes me so excited to be home with Henry!!

    8. This weekend is my mom's birthday.  I'm on a mission to find/make her a yummy cake with no whey in it!  She's a major chocolate lover and recently discovered she has a milk-protein allergy.

    9. It would be nice to get some snow-time off work (I think I'm leaving early tomorrow no matter what so that I don't have the bus ride from hell going home in the storm) to get some more packing done... I'm starting to feel a little anxious about how much we have to accomplish!!

    10. I have a midwife appt tomorrow... I think I'm going to start going bi-weekly now!

  • 8. This weekend is my mom's birthday. I'm on a mission to find/make her a yummy cake with no whey in it! She's a major chocolate lover and recently discovered she has a milk-protein allergy.

I made this recipe for a dinner party where one of our guests had a dairy allergy. It was really good.  If I were to make it again, I would add a tablespoon of cinnamon into the batter and a teaspoon or two into the glaze

    CHOCOLATE CAKE

    what you need

    ? cup water
4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
    ? cup vegetable oil
    2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    1? cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
    1 cup sugar
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    ? teaspoon kosher salt
    2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

    Glaze:

4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
    ? cup water
    1 teaspoon corn syrup

    what you do

Preheat the oven to 375 F. Line the base of a 9-inch round spring-form pan with parchment paper.

Place water and chocolate in a heavy pot over medium-low heat and stir until chocolate is almost melted. Remove from heat and continue to stir until chocolate is melted and mixture is well combined. Stir in oil and vanilla and set aside.

Combine flour, cocoa, sugar, baking soda and salt in a bowl and stir with a fork until uniform. Add liquid mixture to dry ingredients and stir until well combined. Scrape batter into prepared pan.

Pour vinegar on top of batter and use a fork to incorporate it into the batter as quickly as possible. There will be pale swirls in the batter from the baking soda and vinegar reacting. Stir just until vinegar is evenly distributed. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until a cake tester comes out with a few crumbs on it.

Let cake cool in pan. Run a knife around the edge to loosen. Remove sides of pan, carefully invert cake onto a plate, remove bottom of pan and peel off parchment paper. Use another plate to turn cake right side up.

Place cake on serving plate and make glaze.

Place chocolate, water and corn syrup in a small heavy pot over medium-low heat and stir until chocolate is almost melted. Remove from heat and continue to stir until chocolate is melted and mixture is shiny. Allow to cool for 5 minutes or until it has thickened slightly, and then spoon glaze evenly over top of cake. Serves 8 to 10.
