excited and sad

so excited.... last night miss A slept from 11:15pm until 9:00am SurpriseParty!!! she normally sleeps 5-6 hrs and i'm sure this was a one time event, but yay!

and really i am not sure how long she would have slept if i let her, but i woke her at 9am to feed her before her big 3 month photo shoot that was scheduled at 10am today.  normally in the mornings she will sleep, wake to feed, and go right back to sleep until about noon.  i was worried it would be an issue w/the photos but when i woke up and saw she had slept so much, i figured we'd be ok.

now this is what i am sad about - she cried and fussed almost the entire time!! we tried everything... i burped her...nursed her again...rocked her...bounced her up and down....i tried everything and no matter what i did i would calm her down and the second i went to put her down she would start crying, sometimes screaming! well, eventually she started to fall asleep as i was holding her to my chest so we decided we'd just take some sleepy photos....but again, even though she seemed fast asleep on me, the second i tried to put her down she would cry.  normally when i put her down she will fuss a little but then settle and go back to sleep if she is tired...but not today of course!  the photographer said she got some good shots in there and even though i haven't seen any proofs yet, i feel like we didn't get nearly as many as we could have if she had been her usual happy self.  and then of course as soon as the photographer leaves i take her back upstairs and set her down on the bed and she is all happy and smiles like nothing even happened!!! grrrr. i don't know what it was...my only guess is that she was freaked out by some strange woman who was pointing a big black box with flashing lights at her!

i just wish she had been more cooperative since the next session isn't for another 3 months and she will have changed so much by then :( you should have seen the HUGE GRIN on her face when i set her down after the photographer left.  wish she had done that for the camera!!

oh well. thanks for letting me vent...

Re: excited and sad

  • jaime-sure that you got some GREAT shots-sounds like she was testing you and being a diva-btw she is sooooo adorable!
  • Sounds like miss A is going to be a little sneaky one! It's like they just "know" to not cooperate when others are around & make us look like liars!

Yay for sleeping though! That is always something worth celebrating Party!!!

  • Awww, that is sad.  Maybe she is a little under the weather and just wanted some extra love.
  • I'm sorry :( Perhaps that long, dream filled sleep did something to cause the need for her to be in your arms... too much sleep maybe? Not sure but I'm excited about seeing the photos your photog did capture, if they are anything like the first set I'm sure they will be beautiful.

  • I missed everything except the sleeping part, can you tell what we need more of at our house! I completely understand what you mean. We took Bella for 6 month pics and the photographer got about 5 good pics then she wanted to nurse. We nursed and then she fussed, the minute we left the studio she was all smiles again! Sneaky little babies! Hopefully you got at least a couple good ones you can frame!
  • Aww, Jaime, how frustrating.  But I'm sure the photographer got some great shots anyways.  Can't wait to see them!

  • Oooh, I'm sorry she didn't cooperate for the photo shoot.  But YAY for the sleeping!

Hopefully she'll do better next time!

  • Oh Jaime...I am sure it was better than you think.  Babies are weird...little A gave you a repeat of what went on with us and Libby at her photoshoot last week.  It's great that your photog comes to your house!  I am sorry A was so fussy...do you think it's because she slept so long and you woke her?  Maybe she's having a growth spurt?  Wait until you see the proofs before you're too sad.  You only need a few GREAT shots! Yes
  • Aww, I'm sure that even though A was fussing a lot, if the photographer said that she got some good shots, I'm sure she probably did (especially after all the *fantastic* shots she took at the first shoot and at your maternity shoot). So I would just take the photog's word for it since she's proven her results to you guys before. I'm glad to hear that A slept so much though! I hope our LO will be that easy at night =)

yeah, i am anxious to see the sneak peak now!

i know she is nearing her 3 month growth spurt but i don't think she is actually going through it yet b/c she is not feeding around the clock right now.  i think she was fussy b/c she normally eats and goes back to sleep, uninterrupted, in the mornings.  even this morning when she got up (after almost 10 hrs sleep!) she nursed and stayed up a bit to babble but was sleepy and fussing to go back to sleep w/in the hour (i.e she woke at 8am, nursed and was grumpy as we approached 9am b/c she wanted to go back to sleep).  i do also think that she was genuinely freaked out by a stranger coming to take photos of her.... why else would she be perfectly fine and all smiles after being put down the minute the photographer left the house?

i know i shouldn't be too upset until i see the pics, but i know for sure we didn't get a whole lot of pics with her holding her head up (the milestone the photographer insists on them reaching before shooting this session) since she was so fussy.  so, we have a bunch of shots of her laying on her back instead.  we'll see.  of course i'll post some pics after we see them...
