Wait, what?

Woman on the board I cheat on you guys with posted a question about things not being traditional anymore. I got to this part and my head tilted off my body:

I am just curious because I was with my S.O for three year and we never once talked about getting married.  Never went looking for rings, never talked about when we would get engaged.  Christmas morning I got a E Ring and as you can imagine, total shock to me, and of course I said yes

Huh? There's no way in West Hell I'd agree to marry a MF that I've NEVER ONCE discussed marriage with.

"I would be sad if sex was only about the climax, lame." Someone who is obviously doing it wrong

Re: Wait, what?

  • Right there with you.  They never once discussed a future?  Shouldn't you talk about 12 kids/no kids?  Where to live?  How to live?  Finances?  Oh so many other things.
  • Right. Some people, when they think about marriage, only think about the wedding, which is basically a party. A marriage, OTOH, is your life and your future and should be discussed, in detail.

Also, I want to order a sandwich right now.

  • Dang, Man and I have discussed marriage, not because we're planning on it anytime soon, but because over the course of 2 years isht like that comes up every once in a while.

I have a feeling this will either be a long, broken engagement or a short broken marriage. But, then again, everyone is different.

  • so she 'of course' says yes without even knowing the BASICS of what his expectations re: marriage will be (and if they line up w/ hers)?

    brilliant.

  • She is lying or she is an idiot who will end up on TIP for failed communication.
