POLL: Valentines day plans?

What are your plans for Valentines day/long weekend?

We've been snowed in here in DC since Friday. Office has been closed since Monday and will be closed again tomorrow. I am starting to get bored at home. Well, today I found out DH has planned for a mini weekend getaway for us in Philadelphia. It's a close drive from DC. We both haven't been so we can always use the change of environment. Also, I found out he made Vday reservations for us at Roy's in Philly and Saturday night dinner at Marimoto's (iron chef)! I am soo looking forward to it! :-)

Oh, I got DH (well, us) tickets to Grease which will be playing here in DC starting this week. He loved Grease when we has a kid (MIL said he used to watch it over and over and over again lol) so I thought it will be hilarious if I take him to watch the musical.

Re: POLL: Valentines day plans?

  • We'll be packing up and moving on V-day and the Monday after.  We are, however, taking Amtrak to Portland for 2 nights on the Wednesday.  We're having a belated V-day dinner at an Italian restaurant there.

I haven't gotten DH a gift or anything though... actually I did get him a gigantic Toblerone bar!  I figure we'll go shopping in Portland and I'll treat him to something then.

Hey, I think I'm going to Philly this summer!  Have fun there!

would be cool to have a Valentines day bebeh :-)

  • Hahaha. My V-day plan is to leave Alexa with DH and escape to the city for brunch and way too many mimosas with my girlfriends! We made the plan before realizing it was Valentine's day... Since our anniversary is Feb. 17 and are making plans for that, DH said that was OK! Yay!

For our anniversary... We are taking Alexa to daycare and DH is taking the day off! We plan to have a nice brunch togther... Maybe see a movie... Maybe get massages... Maybe rent a downtown hotel room for a few hours! Hahaha!

  • Ummmm...nothing. Embarrassed

We actually don't do Valentine's Day - never have, probably never will. To be totally honest, none of the "traditional" V-Day stuff appeals to me - I'd rather have flowers when the markup isn't so insane, I don't like eating out when restaurants are packed full of other people, I don't eat chocolate...you get the idea.

I guess I'd rather do romantic type things on any other day of the year, because to me it's a bit more meaningful then - it's hard to explain what I'm trying to say, but getting flowers or whatever from Ben would mean more on a day when he's genuinely thought of it himself and not just been bombarded with messages from Hallmark. Maybe that's V-Day grinchy of me lol. Broken Heart

  • I agree with you Lisa - Valentine's Day is a total Hallmark Holiday.  I love when Todd does something great any day of the year.  Also, in the 5 years that we've been together Todd has been travelling every Valentine's Day so we never have the chance to do anything, even if we wanted to.

That said....my gym is having Partner Yoga that morning and then serving dessert so we will go to that.  The kids are with us this weekend and Todd and my SS have hockey games that afternoon and evening so I guess the day will be spent and the gym and the ice rink!

I'm more concerned about Todd's birthday on the 18th.....I still need to drum up a gift!

I'd love it if he/she arrived on Valentine's Day because then that'd mean I'd have two kidlets born on their due date. What are the odds eh?!

    However, wishful thinking.

I agree with Lisa and Amy re. hyped up Hallmark Holidays.

Oooooooh.....I love Marimoto, he's my favorite Iron Chef!

We're not doing gifts or anything, but we are going to dinner.  One of our favorite restaurants is offering a three-course dinner for $79 a couple, which is a great deal (normally this would cost about $120 at this location), so we thought we'd take advantage.  We dont have any other specific plans yet, but since we both have the weekend off, we'll probably end up going to the Chicago Botanic Gardens, which is one of our favorite romantic spots.  Even though we just got over a foot of snow and everything is dead, they still have beautiful tropical greenhouses to walk through.

  • We haven't made any plans this year.  I'm sure we'll go to dinner, but no gifts will be exchanged (unless J springs that on me last minute!).

  • Saturday will be our 6 year anniversary (when we first met) so we're heading down to Seattle for the night :)  We usually celebrate our meeting anniversary over V-day, and for the past few years we've been in Seattle, one of our fave places.  I'm looking forward to getting away, doing some shopping, going out for dinner.  I did buy MH some V-day treats and will most likely pick up a card.

Chika! Did you guys end up buying a house?  Tell me more girl!

  • E, sounds like you're going to have some fun!  You too Malia, wink wink.

MH and I don't have any plans and have been kind of 'meh' about it this year.  My son has soccer tryouts all weekend and his youngest daughter has a softball tourny - so we won't even be together during the day.  We always do something for the kids, this year we got silly baby V day cards for them.  We are giving them each 4 movie passes and the traditional See's heart box of chocolates.

    Awww, this would be awesome!

We don't have any plans since DH has to work. My mom started a tradition a few years ago where we all get together for lunch at her house so DD & I will probably do that.

I'm not really big into Valentine's Day either. I love fresh flowers, just don't like paying triple the normal cost, and I hate going out to eat when places are overcrowded. A nice card from DH will be perfectly fine for me.

  • Not much for us this year either.  The last couple of years it feels like we barely get done with christmas and then have to buy for valentines so we don't do much more than exchange cards and go out to eat.  But I think this year we are going to add some baby shopping into the plans.

totally agree.  I love it when MH comes home with a dozen roses "just because" :)

we usually do cards, but don't do gifts.  we typically do go out to eat, but always agree when we are out that it's too crowded for our taste.  but, we do love some of the discounted 3 course meals you can get at some restaurants :)

this year we weren't planning on much since we have little A....however, my mom is flying in during the afternoon and offered to watch her for us while we go out for dinner.  normally, I'd pass b/c V-day isn't that big of a deal for us...but since we haven't been out to eat together since she was born (only take-out), we will probably go somewhere.  it will be our first date night :)

I do have to say I'm SUPER jealous of this! I'm a hardcore Iron Chef fan. Big Smile

  • Ice Wine Champagne!

No. Seriously, that's our only plan.

Thank you Lisa, you took the words right out of my head and wrote them here, except the chocolate part because I eat plenty of that!

We usually make a nice dinner at home and watch a movie while eating treats we wouldn't usually have. Last year we got a huge cheesecake thing from costco with 3-4 different flavors from Cheesecake Factory. We made ourselves sick and just started eating cheesecake again recently. Maybe I should get one of those again...

  • We usually just exchange cards filled with mushy stuff :)

Since we have the LO this year, it will probably be more of the same!  Maybe I'll try to make a special treat or something though.  I'll have to see if I can find some good recipe for a sweet treat :)  Hopefully I can get out of the house and to the store before then!

    Good plan!

My mom is dying to come down - they were supposed to be here last weekend but couldn't b/c of the snow storm.  I have to admit, I was looking forward to the break as well!

  • we've never been big V-day people, but DH wanted to make sure we did something since it's our first as a married couple. So for his gift I'm taking him to see Avatar in Imax 3-D since we're losers and haven't seen it yet. He doesn't know that's what we're doing. Then we going out to dinner after at a restaurant we have a GC for
