Need some words of encouragement

The good thing is ... I still have a job.

The bad thing .... I have a new boss, new department, new everything. And none of it is by choice. Stupid "re-organization". I'm not happy about it at all. But I know having a negative attitude will only make it harder for me. Things are just very uncertain. Will they support my career path? Will I get the promotion that I just talked to my 'old' boss about? Will they support the projects that I work on? Will I be able to remain an individual or get lost in the shuffle of an enormous department? Ughhh ... meeting in 20 minutes to discuss all of it.

  • Change is never easy. I'm sure things will work out fine for you though. Hang in there and good luck!
  • Just be calm and think positive thoughts.  Be sure to let the new boss know of your ideas for your career path and that you are willing to move on to bigger and better things (promotions).

    GL Katie!

  • Change can be really rough... but it can also bring *many* good things.

GL with your meeting. You're definitely an asset to the company (as shown by your old boss wanting to give you a promotion), so keep that in mind when you start getting nervous.

Good luck, Im sure you'll do great! The same exact thing happened to me in fall of 08. EVERYONE around me was getting let go, including my boss, who was a high-up VP and had been there 11 years. I felt like all these bombs were going off all around me. I had just gotten engaged and knew we had a wedding to pay for, so it was really scary! I got pulled aside and was asked if I would be willing to take on a completely new role, in addition to what I was already doing. I had NO background in this area. They said, 'but if you feel marketing is your true calling, then you should definitely consider maybe looking outside the company.' They said, take some time to think about it. I literally said to them, "If you wanted me to clean toilets, I would. I'll do whatever I can." (in my head I am thinking, I will do whatever I can to STAY EMPLOYED). The first few months were really rough, as I was kind of thrown into the new position with no training, a new boss, new customers to call on... but, it's been nearly 1.5 years and things are much better! I feel very comfortable doing what I'm doing. Change is always very hard on me, so Im glad to say I survived. You'll be ok! Just keep telling yourself that you are valued, which is why they kept you, that's awesome. Smile

  • Good luck!  Sounds like you had a good reputation with your old boss, so I'm sure that will carry over to your new one!
  • Good luck KB!!  Change is difficult, and thankfully it doesn't sound like you are the only one at your company going through this.  Stay in touch with your old managers/co-workers so that your good reputation is spread throughout the company.  :)  It never hurts to have friends!!  Stay positive--we're all rooting for you!!
  • Good luck!!  Change is so hard sometimes, but it sounds like you are a good employee.  Let us know how things go!

  • I'm late posting but wanted to say I hope your meeting went well!  I am not very good with change.  However, without it then we end up in the same old rut and can never grow.  Let us know how things turned out!!
