Question...beauty mark

What constitutes a beauty mark?

when I was in 4th grade I was enamored with a girl named Ashley. I didn't know her until that year and after that year, she moved. Thinking back it makes me wonder if she was just an angel. She always seemed to have that glow about her (and it was 4th grade, she wasn't pregnant). ashley's dark hair, goregous. her face, perfect bone structure. and then, there was her beauty mark. the only person I can ever remember having one, so dark, in the perfect location, right below her bottom lip, just to the side.

I think someone told me that's what it was, a "beauty mark" but now, i never hear people talk about them, never see models with them, so if it is truly a mark of beauty, why don't we celebrate it?

i have a freckle on my face. one, just below my lip, to the side. It is not nearly as perfect as ashelys. It's there, some day's, darker than others.  So, is it a beauty mark? do I use a makeup pencil to make it more prominent?

For so long, this question about a "beauty mark" has been in my mind, i've never asked anyone about it. thanks for letting me ask you.

Re: Question...beauty mark

  • If you wanted to darken it then do so - but there is this lady - a b!tch of a lady that had a BLACK mole on her face that I think she used as a beauty mark.  I don't know that it was real - but with the blackest of black she used it didn't look real so she may have just added that feature to TRY and make herself look better.  With that said if looks natural then go for it.

I have one below my nose above my lip - not so sure I call it a beauty mark but it is there.

  • yeah, I don't think what I have IS a beauty mark. but i don't know...I don't think i'd be comfortable making it look like a beauty mark with makeup (b/c that'd be an obvious lie)

but maybe that's what people do with random freckles? I don't know what standards there are...i'm not up on whats trendy in makeup

  • I have one that developed around puberty. It is below my lip to one side. I joke around about it being my beauty mark but i am not sure if it technically is or not. i was wondering about that the other day too though. like madonna used to paint hers on. and Cindy Crawford has one. hmmm i wonder what happened to the trend.
  • Funny you say that I wasn't born with mine either!

  • This description of Ashley in this post made me laugh, it sounds like it could come out of a romance novel or something (except the 4'th grade part). Awww, 715 had a girl crush!
  • OH, and I say that as long as there isn't black hair sprouting out of it than go ahead & consider it a beauty mark and I wouldn't think it would be bad to darken it w/ a brown eyebrow pencil if you wanted, though I'd be scared I'd accidentally smear it.
  • I have a circular birth mark about an inch lower than the pinky toe on the outside of my left foot. When I was a little girl I was SO embarassed by it. It's a little smaller than a penny. When I would go to my Tae Kwan Do classes, I would put a bandaid over it because I couldn't stand the thought of anyone seeing it.

I really hated it, and it was actually no big deal.

Once, after hearing me moan and cry about it for over a year, my mom told me that I should be grateful I was blessed with a "beauty mark." She told me (this is one reason why I love my mom, her thought process is so awesome) that instead of having a boring foot like everyone else, I got to have a foot with a special mark on it... a BEAUTY mark, and therefore, it's physical proof that I'm beautiful. :)

I love that way of thinking and from that point on, I barely even thought about the mark, let alone cover it.

I think that if it makes you feel beautiful, it's a beauty mark... whether it's a smaller-than-a-penny mark on the side of your foot or a HUGE mark that takes up half your face.

    ::shudders::

To be honest, I don't get the whole "beauty mark" thing. A freckle is a freckle and a mole is still a mole. Does calling it a "beauty mark" help to make it sound more attractive? I never understood how the mole on Cindy Crawford was ever considered sexy. That being said, I have a few freckles of my own and don't consider any of them beauty marks. Huh?
