whole grain drink

from TJs.

It's made w/ brown rice, amaranth, millet and quinoa, and is gluten free.

I tried it last night, and I did not really care for it. Are there some foods that tastes better in than others?

Is it high enough in nutritional value that it is worth palating?

thanks!

Re: whole grain drink

  • Sounds kinda gimmicky to me. I mean, what benefits are you getting from a gluten-free whole grain drink? Isn't the point of eating whole grains getting all the fiber? I don't see why this would be nutritionally better than other milk substitutes, but I know nothing about it.

  • Well, if you are just trying to get more whole grains in, then I'd recommend eating them. Quinoa and brown rice are much more palatable when combined with veggies and a nice sauce, etc.

I personally don't drink my nutrition or my calories (except for the occassional juice when I'm sick or a glass of wine at night :)- I prefer to eat my nutrition. I agree that that drink sounds a bit fishy. You probably can get more nutritional value (and better taste) from eating whole grains combined with vegetables and a protein

  • It probably has more protein than rice milk, so it is preferable in that way as a soy/nut/dairy-free milk.  I don't drink soy milk (cause that's gross!) but it's fine for cereal, smoothies, etc.

  • yeah, we eat all whole grains and veggies. i was just trying a new milk substitute and this one caught my eye because it was gluten free and new.  it doesnt have any protein and it doesnt taste very well, so i dont think well be trying it again.
  • Sounds like drinking thin oatmeal...bleh. Ick!

Maybe mixing those ingredients into a regular smoothie and seperate (like the quinoa one day, rice the next) would be better. I just don't know what could be in it to make it taste like anything...

How can it not contain any protein, if there is quinoa in it?
