What do I do with them?

My aunt is giving me two of these:

One belonged to her mother and one was hers when she was a child, so I'm sure they're going to need a bit of work. I love and want them, but I have no idea what to do with them. I'll try to go over there tonight and get pictures of the actual machines.

Re: What do I do with them?

  • Mom has great gma's on display and gma's is used as a decorative table with a mirror over it.  I remember loving to press the pedal and watch the wheel spin as a kid.  I'm glad I get to inherit one some day.

  • I have the exact same one that you posted. I use it as an endtable of sorts, it's in between my two couches. I'll take a picture for you tonight. It doesn't match my house at all, but it's old and beautiful and I love it.

I also think they are neat as entryway tables, if you have an entryway or under a window.

  • I was thinking about putting the darker one under the window against the wall in the living room. The lighter one could probably go in the spare bedroom that I use as an office.

  • You could use it at as a desk or as a decorative item. I'll take one if you don't want it!

I could also put it in the bedroom with a mirror over it and store my perfume bottles on top.

  • I've seen them used as the holder for pedestal sinks in cool ways...

but that's probably not in the cards for most people :-)

  • My aunt did the same thing Nico's grandma did. It was her kitchen table for years, and I too used to love pushing the pedal when I was little.

My mom has one in her basement that she's been meaning to refurbish for years. I would use it as a desk or end table.

  • Sewing machine up or stored in the down position?

  • down. Less to dust. I always pull it out when I have guests so that they can see it, but then I put it away again. It really is beautiful.
