To those cooking special meal for V-day

What are you making? Have any recipes you care to share? I think I at least have the dessert narrowed down, but am having trouble deciding between a strawberry almond creme tart or some kind of flavored cheesecake.

Re: To those cooking special meal for V-day

  • I totally don't have my menu nailed down yet. I do know I'm making a molten lava cake, or at least trying, but I don't have a recipe yet. I'll probably try to find some cool new chicken recipe that goes with twice baked potatoes (a pain but DH loves them).

  • I want to make this:

As far as the main course I have no idea yet, I was looking through my magazine cut outs last night but still haven't decided. I want to find a recipe where we both can be in kitchen!

  • My best VDay menu was a "Heart and Sole" themed dinner including grilled artichoke hearts (or anything artichoke hearts) and a poached sole (white fish) in a creamy rosy sauce served with flower shaped pasta.  Another time I came up with a chocolate covered strawberry cheesecake with a chocolate crust, a pink strawberry filling, fresh sliced strawberries on top and drizzled with both melted dark chocolate and white chocolate.  It was great.

I'm impressed! That sounds really pretty and tasty.

  • Y'all are so sophisticated. We are doing T-bones and baked potatoes on the grill. :-)
  • I'm obsessed with food, especially when a theme is involved.  If you're interested, I may still have my notes and recipe for the cheesecake.  I think there was also a ganache involved, but that may have been the drizzle.  Anyone can buy or make chocolate covered strawberries, which don't get me wrong are awesome, but for decadence, a cheesecake made in honor of them is really really good and very pretty...and you can impress the heck of your Valentine.

That sounds delicious to me too! I made muffins & carrot salad today and am exhausted after that, so I won't want to be in the kitchen that long!

Sweet Potato, thanks for the recipe offer. My DH voted for the tart this time, but I appreciate the offer.

  • No problem, hope your Valentines Day is great.  I'm always ready to pitch recipe ideas!
  • I bought this pancake mix that is pink for Valentine's day, does that count??  haha I haven't even thought about what we are going to make.  We were going to go out, but I think I may just figure out something good to cook.

  • I usually go with a theme. One year I did a raspberry theme. Raspberry iced tea, raspberry glazed chicken, raspberry vinaigrette dressing on a salad, and raspberry upside down cake. Yum! And it isn't raspberry overkill because it tastes so different in each food item.
  • Ok, menu confirmed: Steak with a red wine reduction sauce, twice baked potatoes, asparagus (maybe) and salad, followed by molten chocolate lava cake.  Stick out tongue

That sounds like my dream meal.  Can you share how you make the red wine reduction sauce?  I just might have to steal your menu if that is allowed!

  • I've never actually done a RWR sauce, but I got a recipe rec from a gal on my anniversary board who is phenomenal cook about to open her own catering business. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/flat-iron-steak-with-red-wine-sauce-recipe/index.html  She said to replace the oregano with rosemary to pair better with steak.

And steal away! I'm so excited about dinner now that I know what I'm cooking!

  • crawfish fettucine- in large saucepan, melt 1 stick of butter add chopped celery, bellpepper, and onion and sautee season with salt, red pepper, lemon pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper when its sauteed add 1 pint of half and half and let come together for a few minutes add 1 stick of small velvetta cheese, let melt and all come together stir and add 1 lb. crawfish tails (only use louisiana crawfish tails, you can find them frozen at most grocery stores and at good seafood markets) you will want to thaw them out ahead of time, and then drain them in a strainer and pick through them to make sure there is no "trash" in them... add crawfish tails to the pot, let cook for about 10 minutes add 1 bunch of chopped parsley while you are making the above you will also want to boil 1 package of extra broad egg noodles once boiled, drain and put in large casserole dish then you pour the crawfish mixture over the noodles, sprinkle with paprika then cover with foil and bake at 350 for 45 mins. best served with french bread to mop up the juice :) TO DIE FOR!!

    crawfish fettucine

Aha!! Thank you! I couldn't think of anything! I need something soft because I'm having a wisdom tooth pulled tomorrow, and I couldn't think of anything DH loves that we haven't had in a while. He asked for Shrimp  Fettucine Alfredo like 6 months ago. That will be perfect!
