Post-Wedding weight gain

Hi Ladies!

My hubby and I just got married June 21st, and so far, it's been blissful and wonderful and everything it should be!  I just have one problem...I think I've started gaining a little weight (~5 lbs since wedding day), and want to nip it in the bud before it gets any worse.  FWIW, I didn't really "wedding day diet"; I just switched jobs, and my previous job was very physically demanding, and I lost weight, despite eating like crap for a year.  I've been trying to eat healthier than I did pre-wedding, and I'm working out 4x/week, but does anyone have any suggestions or similar experiences?  Or is this an unavoidable side effect of being happily married? :(

Re: Post-Wedding weight gain

  • I got married in December and I am fighting this too!   I also did not wedding day diet.  I did do Weight Watchers 4 years ago with great success.  So when I gain 3-5 lbs, I go back to basics.......I have been writing everything that I eat down.   Luckily my husband is healthy so he helps keep me on track.
  • I've accepted a 2-3lb gain as an unfortunate side effect of marriage. The other 5-6lbs I will not accept, and signed back up with my trainer again to get rid of it.

Just watch what you eat - make healthier choices when you can. Cut the white pasta and eat whole wheat pasta, or cut the pasta altogether. Green veggies are very healthy, and go with just about anything. Eat turkey more often than ground beef, etc. Mix in EggBeaters with your scrambled eggs, get turkey bacon, yada yada. All those little things add up.

Another good idea: take some time and go for an evening constitutional with DH. We do it every night (more of necessity to walk the dog, but even so...). It gets you out and active, and walking for a half hour or 45 minutes is healthy for your body and is a great relaxant. I love it because it gives us time every evening to talk without the TV or the Nest or fantasy sports hovering in the background. Just the two of us (and the dog chasing rabbits) spending some quality time together we may not get any other time of the day. (Of course, you can always negate the walking issue by having ravaging sex every night, but that gets wearing, even for the most stalwart of Casanovas.)   :)

  • It happens to all of us!? You really just have to make it more of a priority.? I bumped up my workouts to 4 days a week instead of 3 and I've been trying a lot harder to cut back on the snacks and sweets.? I'm still not back where I want to be, but I'm a lot closer than I was after the wedding.

  • Ah yes, I think the majority of girls feel this side effect of being happily married!!  I don't know why they say stress keeps fat on because when I was stressed with the wedding, I was about 10lbs lighter!  I'm now watching what I eat (no sweets, smaller portions, more veggies, etc) and I've lost around 4lbs in 2 weeks.  I'm also doing the Couch to 5k program to motivate me to exercise.

Don't worry, we all feel your pain :-D

  • Guh. The weight. My cousin's wife told me that's what happens when you "get too comfortable." I have completely lost my workout routine - initially because of a job change, and then because I have a bad knee that likes to act up once I try to get back into a routine. I've gained about 20 lbs. since my wedding last year (I don't look that much different, but I've definitely had to buy new pants!).  I just haven't had the discipline to cut out junk (I'm a chips and sweets fiend) and get into a regular workout. So yes...I completely know what you're talking about. Luckily my hubby prefers my fat -- why, I'll never understand. Stick out tongue
  • we also have both gained some weight - more DH than I, since i dieted before the big day.  we have cut out some drinking during the week, since we started drinking wine almost every night with dinner Stick out tongue
