Hello!
I am hoping you ladies can help me out. My husband and I (along with our two young girls, and both sets of grandparents) are planning a trip to Arizona for a week in April. We are spending a couple days hiking/sight seeing the Grand Canyon, but need recommendations of what to do for the rest of our time. We are flying into Phoenix/Mesa but will be renting a van and don't mind traveling 200+ miles around that area.
So, what are some "must do's"? Thanks in advance!
Re: Need some travel advice
I always recommend that out-of-towners drive up South Mountain. South Mountain is a huge park (with several mountains) in South Phoenix, and you can drive up it to an awesome lookout point at the top, where you'll be able to see the entire Valley. Sometimes jewelry makers will set up their blankets and sell southwestern-ish jewelry and stuff at the top, too. It's just a great view, and it's a nice way to explore outdoor Phoenix without actually hiking (particularly since I don't know how much all the grandparents would want to hike). I take all my visitors on this drive, and they always love it. Great photo opp.
It's very easy to get to. You just drive south down Central Ave. from anywhere in Phoenix and eventually, you literally run into the mountain. You just follow the road around the twists and turns, and before you know it, you're climbing the mountain.
Enjoy your trip!
I think Sedona is just amazing and a must-see!!! but since you're already going to the Canyon, it might be a little much for you.
