So I think they are in denial about the risks of using SLS. I posted something to them asking if they would be making a SLS free dish soap and they are basically denying that it is harmful.
They wanted me to read the "science" they have. This is really turning me off to their products.
Re: 7th Gen
Yeah, I kind of felt the same way. I was really disappointed. More disappointed that its in their baby laundry detergent - a known irritant! ugh!
I really like their other products, so I'll probably continue using them, but I"ll have to find another dish detergent...which I still haven't really found one I liked all that much anyway.
I feel the same way. We use 7th Gen dish detergent and Method laundry detergent, both have SLS. DH is allergic to SLS, and I think the laundry detergent is contributing to how itchy he's been lately.
I don't what else to try though. I haven't had the time or motivation to make my own, and every brand on the looong eisle of "green cleaners" at Whole Foods has SLS in it.
I just found a new brand of dish detergent (for hand washing dishes) - Earth Friendly Products Ultra Dishmate. It's SLS free, phosphate, petrochemical and formaldehyde free. 100% biodegradable. I haven't used it yet....I too am switching from 7th gen and just waiting for this last bottle to be used up. I found it in a local drugstore that has an amazing organic/natural selection - but you can get it online (amazon, etc).
I'll follow up after I've used it to let you know how it is.
Also - we use the Earth Friendly Products Ecos Liquid Laundry Detergent
(free & clear for all the baby stuff, lemongrass for our stuff). I've so far been really happy with it.
boo on 7th gen. I totally fell for their marketing.
Learning to start all over again... Blog
I went on a quest to find the best laundry detergent. I was sick of tossing my kids' clothes due to stains from food, etc. I now make my own. Takes no more than 10 minutes, so cheap, and is hands down THE BEST at getting my clothes clean. I prefer to make mine dry.
Equal parts: Super Washing Soda (found at Publix or online), Borax (just about every store has this) and Fels Naptha laundry soap (again found at Publix or online. You can also use Zote laundry soap, which works as well).
I do a ton of laundry, including cloth diapers, w my soap. I spend roughly $7 every three months on supplies. I also use vinegar on the rinse cycle. I use only 4 tbsp per large load, 2 for a small load. I use a microplane grater to shave the laundry soap.
My DD's cloth diapers are the most surprising. I knew my soap was awesome, but there are NO STAINS. Amazes me every time.
I use the 7th Gen products (dishwashing liquid, disinfecting spray, all purpose spray, and the tub/tile cleaner). I didnt know about SLS until this post. But I googled SLS in seventh generation products and found this.

Are you all mainly concerned that its a skin irritant only?
Nevermind my posts. I just read the next page on a different post about 7th Gen and SLS. I thought it was all products.
Ok so here's my question: if you have the dishwashing liquid would you still use it if it doesnt harm you? Or switch to a different one just because it has SLS in it?
