Energy Saving can light bulbs?

One of our can lights went out int he kitchen and I need to get it replaced.  We have switched all of our regular bulbs to the energy saving bulbs - so the only non-energy daving bulbs are our can lights.  Do they make an energy saving bulb for those?

Re: Energy Saving can light bulbs?

  • Does it take a bulb like this?  We have an "eyeball" light that is similar to a can light and we got a CFL bulb for it at Home Depot.

  • We use these CFLs from Home Depot.  Bright white is my color preference and the 16watt (65w comp) is the same amount of light that was there before.  The important thing is that is has the reflective coating on the inside.  That will direct the light down from a can.  A curly CFL will fill the can with light, but not bring much to the room.  Also, as a note, this brand does have a 3 minute-ish warmup so if you put them in, give it a few minutes to make your decision after you turn them on.
  • We have them and I absolutley HATE them!  It takes them a minute to warm up so when I turn on the kitchen light it is just a very very dim light until they warm up and then they are way too bright.  But they do make them.

This is the reason I rarely use the eyeball light I posted about above.

  • Mine take a while to warm up too and I can not stand it.

but it's all the lights in the kitchen, except the one of the table and the hanging one over the stove.
