XP: Kid Friendly Centerpeice Idea?

I am having a first birthday party that is Cupcake themed.  I have found an adorable scented cupcake candle that fits in perfectly. I have a large clear round centerpiece vase left over from my wedding that I can put it in.  My question is what to put around the candle?

All I can think of is jelly beans, but I don't want kids reaching in for candy, even though the candle won't be lit. 

This picture was the best I could find online, though nuts really don't go with my theme either.  TIA!

What about colorful marbles?  I know they sell those in all colors at craft stores.

What about confetti?

If the centerpeice is anywhere that the kids can reach it, it's not a good idea to put anything that could be a choking hazard in it.

This is what I was thinking. 

I think confetti could look cute too, but I'd be worred about paper near the flame.
