I wish I loved this stuff...
Unfortunately the first time I tried it, it just doesn't taste anywhere as good as something like JIF. Today I ran out of my JIF and I wanted to make a sandwich and I figured I would just deal with the taste of the Smuckers - heck, I'd even salt it a little if need be!
Well it does say to refrigerate on the jar - there was no way I could begin to spread this on the bread. I chipped out a few dry, hard chunks of PB, tore up the bread trying to put it on, and tossed it all.
I hate to bash something organic (plus it comes in a glass jar).
Now the question is - what do I do with the PB? Bake with it? Will it bake as well as "traditional" PB? Do you make Thai peanut noodles with PB (or would you use whole peanuts)? Any suggestions? I don't want to toss a $5 jar of PB.
Re: Can I vent again about Smuckers Organic PB?
do you have pets? my dogs get pb as a treat.
sorry you didn't have a good experience with it. there are a couple of kinds here locally that are natural and really good. maybe try something like that? trust me, you will learn not to miss the jif!
I was just going to say this! my dog PPH PB!
Learning to start all over again... Blog
Yuck. Don't give up on organic PBs though- I had to experiment with a few different brands until I found one that didn't separate like oil and water in the fridge.
Ditto on the doggie meals.
Otherwise, you could sautee it with soy sauce and vegetable broth, make a sauce and serve it with zucchini, etc
Maybe bake in into something? Brownies with PB? :-)
I love Teddie Peanut Butter. It's all natural with just peanuts and salt (or without) and so far I've had good experience about putting it in the fridge. Only once has it ever dried up (and I've been buying that brand for over a year). Most of the time I just mix in whatever oil has separated and it becomes creamy again.
I don't know if you have a Whole Foods near you but their 365 organic peanut butter is awesome. For some reason their regular/ conventional 365 brand doesn't have the same consistency, flavor and it separates.
It has to be refrigerated but it normally stays pretty smooth. Or you could be like my DH and stick it in the microwave for a few seconds and it is nice and smooth and easy to spread on bread.
If mine gets dry let like that I stir in some oil.
But I have found it does not turn out "right" when I try and cook with it. I think since it doesn't have any added sugar in it.
Also I have mircowaved it before, but it tasted kind of "burnt".
If you don't like it, you can use it for baking. To make sure it tastes "right" try to use a recipe that calls for natural peanut butter. The peanut butter oatmeal cookies on this site are great:

I just switch out shortening for butter or use 1/2 of each.
I also use mine for peanut noodles and sauces. Depending on the other ingredients you might want to add a pinch of sugar or other sweet ingredient (fruit juice, etc.).
ditto this!!! there are some that spread better than others!
anddddd we use it on toast a lot....we toast up our bread then stick a big chunk on the bread, let it sit for like 30 seconds and then it spreads easily

I agree that is helps to put it on something warm and wait a little before spreading.
I was not sure if I would be able to adjust, but now I do not miss traditional PB.
I'm not sure about cooking with it, etc. I did want to mention for the future that I notice with natural PB in general that if you don't get it mixed up really really well to start with, it gets impossible further down toward the bottom of the jar since there isn't enough oil left.
I agree with others that you do get used to the flavor of natural PB and then traditional PB takes weird. I also like to add a bit of honey to it sometimes, so maybe that's something to tray.
