A luger from the Republic of Georgia died following a crash today.  So sad!

Re: Olympic Death already

  • I was sad to see that.

I was even more sad... nay appalled, disgusted with... Huffington Post, among other news outlets, who have already published significantly more graphic photos of the crash/aftermath and injury.  Youtube had a video of the crash up too, until it was yanked with a notice from the IOC that it was pulled for "copyright" reasons.

This isn't a movie.  This is genuine tragedy.  It bothers me how insensitively and voyeuristically it's being treated.

  • It is just tragic and sad.  I can't believe that stuff like that has to become "YouTube worthy" seconds after it happens.

  • it is so sad. and NBC played the video too... it made me sick to my stomach. I don't know if the one on youtube was more graphic?
  • I agree..... so extremely sad. It's really poor taste that the news channels are showing video of the accident, too.
  • I'm still traumatized from seeing the pic on msnbc earlier today.  How horrible for his family to see that everywhere!!  One of my friends pointed out that NASCAR won't even show a replay of a crash until they know the driver is ok.

  • Horrific.

    1) Why wasn't the wall higher?

    2) Why the he11 didn't they have some kind of protective covering on the metal support beams that were just outside of track?

That's what he hit when he flew OVER the wall and then smacked into the metal beam.  There were complaints of the track being unsafe before this happening. I'm sorry, I'm not a sue happy kind of person, but whoever designed this and approved the safety of the track is just plain negligent.

  • I agree....something needs to be done. I don't think padding the beams would have done anything though.... you could die hitting a down pillow at those speeds.... But something does need to be done.
