Sound icon keeps disappearing

The sound icon near my clock on my utility tray (I think that is what it's called) will randomly be gone.

How can I bring it back?

Re: Sound icon keeps disappearing

  • What version of Windows are you running?

If you have Vista, right click on the taskbar and select Properties.  In the "Notification Area" tab, check "Volume" to bring it back.

  • Same thing just happened to me. I lost my sound icon and my battery icon. It wouldn't let me check them because they were grayed out.

  • Mrs. Pink, what is your OS?  I read about that happening to XP with some frequency.
  • I am using Vista. Thanks, that fixed it btw!

  • If you're running Vista, the same thing has happened to me (sound, battery level, and something else were grayed out).  If you run task manager (CTL + Alt + Del) - "task manager" - go to processes and seelct "explorer.exe" and click "end process."  You'll lose the bottom bar of windows - don't worry.  In Task Manager, select File: New task (Run): type: "explorer.exe" and click OK.  It should bring back all of the items missing from your toolbar.  Good luck!

Ah, okay that works out good.

Right after I posted that the problem was fixed it had disappeared again and I couldn't click to bring it back doing it the way the other OP suggested.

    Thanks!
