Vent - Work review

So I just had my two year employee evaluation and it sucked.  This review was based on the last year, during which my department has seen a lot of changes.  I'm the type that can take responsibilty for my mistakes, but a lot of what was put in my evaluation was beyond my control.  During the last year I had a crazy boss (seriously not all there crazy) for the first 4 months, no boss for the middle four, and now a new boss for the last 4.  My crazy boss wouldn't let me talk to board members or work on sponsorship, and now my new boss says it was my job to get sponsorship.  The whole thing is just a cluster f*($ :-(

I know I can do my job well when I'm give a little rope - I promise I won't hang myself.  The good thing is my new boss wants to give me that rope so I guess this is my make it or break it moment.  I'm just really frustrated that things beyond my control make me look bad.  Not making our event budget because of decisions made by a director, print materials being late because of the marketing coordinator,...etc...I know my weaknesses and I'll work on them....but geez...I can't be responsible for the entire department when I'm not even allowed to sign a gosh darn purchase order!  Arghh.....

  • I can't imagine how frustrating that is!!!  It really is a whole other ball game when you're being held responsible for things out of your control.  Hang in there!

  • Ugh, that sucks. I'm sorry you're being held responsible for the actions of people who aren't even around any more. On the up-side, it sounds like your new boss is better than the old one. Hopefully you at least got credit for hanging in there while everything was in flux...
