Anyone that works for the school districts

Have a question - I applied for a nonteaching position with NEISD a week or so ago. My boss just came down and said that they had contacted her for a reference. Is this normal? I haven't heard anything from them and thought it was strange that they would contact my former (and current) employers before I ever talked to them.

Re: Anyone that works for the school districts

  • I applied to a non teaching position with some school district here (I think it was NEISD) when we were still in NYC before we moved here last year. Same thing happened to me-they contacted one of my references before I heard anything from them.  I thought it was odd too.  Then they contacted me for a 'pre-interview'.  They weren't calling me to see if I would come in for an interview-they were calling to screen applicants before they asked them to come in for an interview.    Again, very odd.  Never heard from them again.

  • Hi there NISD does what they call Pre Screening...they check your information and gather references.  They also bring you in for a pre screening interview at Human Resources.  If all goes well, you get put into the system and then administrators have access to that...if your skills are a match, then the principal can call you to bring you in for an interview.

    Does that make sense?

I believe the other districts in the area do the same thing.  I've been i nNISD for 11 years and that's always how they've done it.  We even have to watch this interview training deal and it goes over all the policies.

Hope that helps.  Good luck!  What did you apply for?

  • Yeah, that makes sense. It's a HR position and being in HR it was something I had never done or heard of before. Generally we check the ones that we're interested in post interview since it can get expensive and time consuming. Thankfully I had already told my boss I would be looking around since I'm finishing my MA in December.

  • Yeah as soon as you submit an application for NEISD and NISD, it sends out letters to the ppl on your reference list.  I think it is kinda crappy b/c you can't sectretly search for a new position!!  BTW, the same thing happened to me 2 years ago.
