Did you watch the Opening Cermony?
What did you think?
I thought it was really cool how so much attention was put on Canada's native peoples.
I teared up when Georgia came in.
Re: Did you watch the Opening Cermony?
DH said the same thing.
Saw some of it til I fell asleep...
Thought it was really neat! Fell asleep before the lighting, but hearing it was a bust-really?
I liked the fiddle parts, too, besides the native parts-DH and I wondered if the natives danced the whole time.
I liked when they lifted the mountain area up and did the kid in the fields. Gotta see if I can re-see it later today/tomorrow! And one of the sets of ice dancers (after saying you/we didn't like it that much) trained in my hometown-too funny!)
Honestly, I thought there was about 30-45 mins. of "good stuff", the rest was pretty boring. I was a bit let down. I didn't expect Beijing, but I thought they could've done a little better.
I thought it was interesting. I liked the big polar bear and the whales, plus all the lighting effects were really neat. I also liked how they included so much about native groups. I thought the guy in the prairie segment looked cool...it looked like fun to be in that kind of harness and getting to spin and twist!
I watched the whole thing, which is unusual for me (except for the Beijing ceremony because I was stuffing wedding invitations while watching it lol). I must say that there were a few things that annoyed me:
1) I enjoy seeing all counties walk in, I think all should be able to have their "moment" in the TV coverage. I thought it was really crappy to not include Uzbekistan because it fell between the U.S. and Canada and NBC was going on for about 15 minutes about how great the U.S. team is and only said in passing, "oh yeah, Uzbekistan was introduced back there at some point too."
2) I'm sick of seeing Shaun White. Seriously?! I mean, could they show him anymore? If I didn't know any better I'd think he was the sole member of the U.S. team. Good god.
3) Bob Costas was getting on my nerves (because he was the main person doing this), I'm sick of this opening ceremony being compared left and right to Beijing. They're separate entities. I understand saying a comparison initially, but that should have been it. I don't think each opening ceremony should be out to blast a predecessor out of the water. I want to see unique things, country-specific aspects, different design schemes. But, instead, I get Bob Costas every 5 seconds saying, "well, this is interesting, but nowhere near as magnificent as Beijing!"
Oh yeah, and I loved the U.S. team knit hats! I thought they were adorable lol. Sorry this got long (I'm bored here...DH is watching a basketball game so I'm left to entertain myself for the next few hours lol!).
