When a friend's husband cheats

A very good friend of mine told me this week that her husband has confessed to having an affair. She's in total shock, thought they were happy,etc.

I  understand that relationships have issues from time to time,especially after so long, but isn't the point that you bring your concerns to your partner, not just go out and cheat and call the relationship done? Without trying? I HATE when this happens to people I care about.

I'm so heartbroken for her,and am struggling to be a good listener, because all I really want to do is go rip this guy's head off. If they end up staying together it will be pretty awkward- I've already said so many horrid things to her about him in anger/protectiveness of her.

I'm so sorry.That is awful that their marriage is in such a terrible place. I'm not sure what I would do if they stayed together but hope that somehow they can make it work and heal and never do it again. Good luck.

I am so sorry that your friend is going through this.  I have never been in this situation but I always have a hard time understanding how 2 people can let their relationship get to the point to where someone is willing to throw it all away.  I always tell DH "If you ever are tempted to cheat on me, at least have the respect to get a separation first".  Cheating to me is inexcusable (sp?).  Did she 100% not see this coming?  You are a great friend for listening!  Does she or he want to try and work it out?

I feel so awful for you friend.  Before meeting my DH, I dated a guy for 4 years, we were about to get engaged when I found out he was cheating on me.  It was totally devestating.  We didn't stay together.  I hope she does whatever is right for her.
