Traveling to Beaufort for Labor Day weekend

My husband and I will be coming to Beaufort (from deep, deep south Georgia) Saturday morning. We figured we'd get there about lunch and walk along the waterfront, dine downtown or take a dinner cruise. On Sunday go kayaking or to the beach and the Monday do whatever we didn't do Sunday. Any places the "locals" love? Is the kayaking worth $40/person? Any great local places y'all love to eat?

  • I've never been kayaking there, but I'm sure ti's worth it. Beaufort is a gorgeous place. My cousin lives in Port Royal, so we go up often to see her.  I'm thinking of going up this Saturday, myself.

Luther's is a fun place to go at night for drinks, Brewers is a a really neat brewery- they are green! They have really good lunch. The burgers are tasty! Brewers has a very neat atmosphere and it's not some rowdy joint, that you might expect out of a brewery.

Plums- good lunch, Panini's Cafe-decent dinner, and the Saltus River Grill is supposed be really good.

For fine dining my husband and I absolutely love Bateaux. It's beautiful in there and the food is amazing.

Where are y'all staying? Please don't waste your time at the Beauleui House on Cat Island. Another nestie was staying there and she probably had a better experience. We did not, lol.

I'm sure you're going to have a great time!

  • We are staying at the Holiday Inn. We like to earn points for free nights and it's less about the hotel room (as long as it's decent) and more about excursions for us. My husband is also anti-B&B.

Thanks for the recommendations. I love knowing about the "non-touristy" places. . .we'll stay in a chain hotel, but stay away from chain restaurants when we are out of town.

We went to Charleston Sept. will be two years ago and loved it. We went to the market to see a local photographer (I bought 4 or 5 prints) and went to the big market on the lawn Sat. a.m. We loved it!
