has anyone seen the movie food inc?

I just watched this movie and I love it.  I must say I have been very blind about the products I buy from the store.  Does anyone know where I can find information or a list of products/companies that are environmentally friendly and treat their workers right? I know local farmers markets but what about things you have to buy in  store?

  • this site would be a good start:

PS I loved the movie too! I had known about the food quality issues, but this movie really brought home how crappily the farmers and workers are treated by big ag.

  • This is a good resource if you are concerned about avoiding GMOs. It gives specific brand names, etc.

And I agree - GREAT film!

  • I'm glad you liked it, it's a great film.  If you'd like to avoid GMO food, I have a purse-sized shopping guide that I use, e-mail me at elaine dot dubin at gmail dot com if you'd like it.  Here's some links:

Which organic foods are owned by what corporations.  Generally speaking, the small companies (i.e., not Dean, General Mills, Heinz or ConAgra) are best for the environment and treat their workers well.  I'm not a big fan of industrial organic companies like that, it's defeating the purpose of the movement.

Here's the Dirty Dozen and Clean 15.  Not many people, myself included, can afford to buy everything organic.  I use this guide to buy the most pesticide-laden foods (Dirty Dozen) organic, and buy the Clean 15 conventional.
