Feel like a cheat!

I pride myself on making things from scratch. I really hate Sandra Lee and her semi-homemade style of cooking.

I knew that I would be off today so I offered to make a cake for our collective bday party (Dad, Brother, Mom, DH and Brother's GF) but after yesterday of timing ctx and worrying the thought of making a cake, standing in the kitchen etc was not appealing. So I had DH run out for boxed cake and frosting.

I know that it will still be yummy but I feel like my family has come to expect the real deal and I just can't deliver it today.

  • I know how you feel.  I like to make things from scratch too.  But you are about to have a baby so you have a huge excuse for doing a box mix.  I wouldn't put too much pressure on yourself.  People might actually be mad at you for going to all the trouble of making a cake from scratch when you are about to pop!

  • I don't think there's anything wrong with a boxed cake mix.  It's just the pre-measured dry ingredients that you were going to use anyway.  I bet if you don't say anything, no one else would even guess.

The frosting they might be able to tell, but so what?  I'm sure it will still be delicious!

  • I hereby give you a free pass to use boxed cake mix at 38+ weeks pregnant!  Big Smile

I'm sure it will still be delish!

  • I love boxed cake! I also don't like Sandra whatever either. It's usually more work to make it semi-homemade than to just make it! hahaha.

But you could just make your own frosting and then it would less box and more you! :o) I'm also a lover of homemade frosting so......lol

  • Even Alton Brown uses box cake mix!!!  (He makes his own frosting, but also, is not pregnant!!  You're ok!)
