Time to start thinking Bridal Shower!

My sister is getting married in June and all of a sudden it's February and I realize that I haven't secured a location to host her shower at. I am the only bridesmaid (our other sister is also one, but at 15 she isn't much financial help...lol) so my budget is tight since I'll be paying for mostly all of it.

So anywho....I am REALLY excited because I found a location in Des Moines (totally unfamiliar with places in DSM but my sister wants it there) and if you have $125 spent on food it's free to rent. This is awesome considering I was looking at at least $100 just to rent other places, plus all the food.

The theme is Breakfast at Tiffany's, can you guys take a look at the room and let me know what you think?

It's the next 3 or 4 photos in this FB album:

Re: Time to start thinking Bridal Shower!

  • I think it looks great - you could do a lot with it!

    ...and I want that kitchen!!!!

  • I think you could do a lot with it! Esp. since you are so creative and crafty, I bet you can come up with great/cheap ideas to dress up the space. What an awesome theme!!! I love love love that movie. Def. post after pics once you have the shower.
  • Neat!  What ideas do you have so far?
  • What a great space! I am really excited to see what you are going to do with it :).
  • Thanks ladies!

So far I am thinking that those Martha Stewart tissue poms would look pretty hanging from the ceiling in a tiffany blue color, maybe a few white ones? I purchased some boxes exactly like these from Hobby Lobby before christmas, I hope to fill them with tightly packed carnations for centerpieces, and strew some fake pearl strands around with some small diamonds as well.

Probably white tablecloths, and I have some little favor boxes that are white I plan to tie up with black ribbon and add a blue "Love" tag to seal each one. (the favor boxes were a kit I got on clearance). They are little so I was thinking of filling each one with tiffany blue jelly bellys? Any other ideas?

This is the very first rough draft invite I made in Vistaprint...I'm really mixed on whether I like it or not. It would be tied up with a white satin ribbon, Tiffany style, and then I would glue some more rhinestones over some of the printed ones for some dimension.

  • Oops...don't need all that info on the WWW. Invite again (oh and the date and time is just made up for now):

  • I think that space looks great!!  I think maybe instead of the tissue poms you could do white paper lanterns as a nod to the character "Mr. Yunioshi," the upstairs neighbor in the movie.  Also, you could make sure that jazz music is playing in the background.  Oh, and definitely cocktails if you'll have guests that are drinkers.  Also, you could have some props in the room, like a stack of old suitcases/trunks (like in Holly's living room where she is known to hide her telephone).  Love the idea for the centerpieces and love the invites!

These are all great ideas, thank you! I have been meaning to find some vintage suitcases to use around the house, so I could be on lookout and use them at the shower as well. And I love the paper lanterns in nod to Mr. Yunioshi. I was hoping to have Mimosa's and hand them to each quest as they walked in, but the information only said that "beer and wine samplings" were permitted, I need to call them at 8 and talk details. Thanks for the ideas!

  • You should get pretzel sticks (the long kind) and dunk it completely in dark chocolate except for about 1.5" at the end.  When that dries, coat the 1.5" side in white chocolate.  That way, everyone can have their own "cigarette holder":

  • If you need more favor boxes, I was at Marshalls near my house yesterday and they had a few kits in Tiffany blue on clearance from the Brides line. I can pick them up and send them to you :).
  • It looks like a great space, and your invites look good too.  Smile
    Matt loves Munkii!!!
  • Very cute!  A friend of mine did very similar centerpieces for her sister's birthday this year.  She found hydrangia plants on clearance and cut the poofs of flowers off.  I know finding hydrangia's on clearance is super random, but it's worth keeping your eyes out if you tend to visit plant stores.  :o)
