AW and a Question

First, the AW part: I DID IT! I got the job!! It's a huge promotion and I am excited and terrified all at once. I've never managed a staff of this size, and I haven't had to deal with the media as much as this job will require, but I have heard good things about my staff, so hopefully it will all go well (knock on wood!).

Sylvia has been wonderfully supportive, and I feel so thankful to be able to share this experience with her and to have her by my side in my more panic-y moments. She is convinced I have "Arrived" because I now have my own admin assistant. So cute.

Next, The Question: So, how long do you think we need to wait before ttc? Obviously I need to get settled in and whatnot, but I also feel I "owe" my new boss and my staff some consistent time in the position before I am potentially out of the office for a couple of months. That said, at 31 with PCOS, I don't want to wait too long. What do you think? A year? Two?

Re: AW and a Question

  • Congratualtions! Sounds like a great opportunity.

I would say to wait a year. That will be enough time to get settled and really have the job down. I think two years is a bit much to wait, because unfortunately, it doesn't always happen right away.

    Enjoy the new position

  • CONGRATULATIONS!!! i'm so excited for you :):) thats a great accomplishment and you should definitley be proud of yourself!

as for when to ttc, I think 8 months - 1 year is plenty to wait. They've invested in you for long-term; in the grand scheme of things, a few months out of a carreer is nothing.

    good luck!!

  • congrats!

I say 6-12 months. You don't know how long itll take you to get preggo anyway :)

  • Congratulations!!

  • Congrats! I say about 6 mos - enough time to settle in and feel adjusted before the stress of TTC.  I know it's hard to not feel like you owe them something - but if you were straight, you could get pregnant by accident they day after you started, you know?  My boss at my old job got pregnant right after she started - it was completely unplanned.  She worked through the pregnancy (remember, that's a whole 9 months of work, and you could be helping them prepare for your absence [by training a temp or whatever else]), then used her leave and sick time and came back - she still works there now.  Just my opinion.  Good luck with the new gig!

  • I waited about 6 months before TTC.  I didn't tell my boss, but I am sure she thought I was on death's doorstep since I was having to take off 2 afternoons every month for inseminations and come in late several mornings a month (blood work, ultra sounds, meetings with the doctors.) I did this for 7 months (over a 19 month period.)  When I finally told her I was pregnant, she was said, "Ahhhh...it all makes sense now." :)  I think 6-12 months is appropriate time frame to wait - especially since you aren't a new employee!

    GOOD LUCK!
