Rental Help

Hi ladies.  I really love reading this board but never participate!   Even though I never chime in, I am hoping that you all can help me with something.  We recently bought a new house and are trying to rent out our townhouse which is in Margate (north Broward).  We cannot sell it right now because the selling prices are way too low due to some foreclosures in the neighborhood.  We thought it would be easy to rent it out but are really not getting too many inquiries.  We even had the realtor who sold us our house list the rental but she has had it listed for almost a month and has only had 7 showings, which seems low to me.  Anyway, the townhouse is in great condition with an upgraded kitchen in a gated neighborhood and on a canal and the rent we are asking is comparable to rental amounts in the area so I really cannot figure out what is going on.  Is anyone trying to rent property in this area and having a similar experience?  Can anyone suggest where/how we should advertise the rental?  Are there realtors who specialize in rental properties that we should contact?  Any advice that you girls can share would be much appreciated! Also, congrats to all of you who have recently bought homes that I have read about in some of the other posts!

Re: Rental Help

  • Glad you came out of lurking :)

Well, I wouldn't give up home yet, it's only been a month! However, I would also make sure the property is listed on craigslist and on rent.com.  Those are the two places I check first for rentals.  I don't know of any realtors that specialize in renting.  The only thing I would suggest is to see who is renting out the other properties in the complex, maybe that would be a good start since that person has had success there already.

I would also spread the word on Facebook/Twitter.  Word of mouth is powerful!

    Good luck!

  • Try rentals.com My DH and I got a lot of responses and rented out our townhouse through there.
  • Thanks!  We have been posting on craig's list but only had a few people contact us.  Also, the post would get buried under other posts so quickly that we had to re-post almost every day!  I had not heard of rent.com or rentals.com but will look into those two websites.  Thanks for the advice!
