Questions about Soda Streams!

Ok... who has one, and which one do you have? I am looking at the Penguin because of the glass bottles, but it is quite a bit more money than the cheaper models that use BPA free plastic...

Also, DH's work goes through A TON of sparkling waters... he is going to try to get them to switch over to glass bottles of Calistogas instead of the plastic, but I am wondering if this would be ideal for the office? Or would it be too much of a job?

THANK!!!

  • I too am very interested in reviews. I didnt know these existed until yesterdays post.  I go through tons of sparkling water.  this would be great for me.

I saw that they come with flavor packs.  Do you have to use those or can you use natural fruit juice?

    nothing
  • I keep seeing ads for these, and I never drink soda . . . but these ads are starting to make me want to! Bad, bad.

I don't drink soda, but we do drink sparkling water... we have mostly stopped due to plastic bottles... but sometimes it is nice to be a little sparkly!

  • We have the Genesis, it works great...it's a really simple "machine"; it is really just a button to release the carbonation from the cartridge...not much to it!  So I wouldn't spend more on it for that reason.

It would be fine for an office if people don't mind doing it...it is really quick to do but is a couple more steps than opening a bottle (fill bottle w/water, twist it in, press carbonation button 3x, remove bottle).

You can get the flavorings to make flavored seltzer or the syrups for soda.  We have a few syrups and I think they taste fine (we use diet cola, Energy-just like red bull, and a diet sprite type)...but we mostly use it for seltzer.

    HTH!

ETA: you could probably use fruit juice concentrates.

You add the flavor after you carbonate, so often we drink 1/2 seltzer 1/2 oj spritzers (with or without vodka, haha)

  • I forgot what the name of my machine is, but it's the cheapest one.  I love it!  We used it so much we actually ran out of carbonation already!  We're saving up to buy a bigger one so it lasts longer.  But I really love it and really miss my sodas.

I actually wrote a whole review on it on my blog.

  • I'm going to check this out tomorrow!  I'm so excited!  thank y'all for making me aware this exists!
    nothing
  • We have had the Fountain Jet for almost two years now. Love it.

P.S. We really only use it to make sparkling water as I am not a fan of sweetened sodas. I do add natural flavor, usually with a shot of syrup or a wedge of lime.

  • We have the fountain jet and love it!  It's mostly for DH as he drinks a lot of soda and sparkling water.  I have never liked sparkling water before and I like this.  I sometimes add fresh lemon and it's great...the flavor waters are good too.  In terms of soda, I don't really drink soda and I can slightly taste a difference, just b/c Splenda is used.  Most people don't notice an after taste with that but I do.  But DH doesn't really notice a difference and that is the important thing in this house!!
