Opinions on these restaurants?

Hi. I live in the IE, but am heading down to SD for my birthday in a few weeks. I've narrowed down some options for dinner and would value any input from locals:

Suite + Tender

Oceanaire

Bertrand's

We'll be staying at the Westin (former Wyndham), if that makes any difference.

Re: Opinions on these restaurants?

  • Never been to the first, but have been to the other 2.  Oceanaire is one of our favorite seafood restaurants in SD, which surprsingly lacks in the fresh seafood department!  We're going there tomorrow night, actually.  Neither of us was a huge fan of Bertrand's.  The view is nice, but the food was just ok.  If I had to choose, I'd go with Oceanaire, esp. if you like seafood.

  • I haven't been to the other 2 either, but I love Oceanaire. They have great seafood and they are currently offering a 3 course market menu for $29.95 (Sun-Thurs).
  • Thank you!

  • I'm not a fan of fish, but Oceanaire was delicious.  I had filet and some of the truffled potatoes (I think they're truffled, anyway).  Everyone else loved their dinners too.

Bertrand at Mister A's was very nice, but not amazing.  Not sure if I'd love it going sometime other than restaurant week.

Have you checked out reviews on Yelp?  They're always a good resource, IMO.

  • i've only eaten at oceanaire... it was a few years ago but was good.  i would recommend stopping at bertrand's to have a pre (or post)-dinner drink to check out the view.

  • I've never been to Oceanaire, but I'm pretty sure that's where Brian from Top Chef works, so it would get my vote too :-)
