Paulo's Menina Bela

I was talking to a new girl we met through our retreat group. She seems like a nice girl. However, nice =/= smart. The subject of Lent came up and she mentioned she planned to sacrifice all alcoholic beverages. Okay, w/e, I'd kill for a margarita right now. She goes on to say she's also giving up the drink because she and her BOYFRIEND are trying to have a baby.

My immediate response, "What! Why?"

Her reply, <laughter> "Well, you know we've been together a year and I want to move forward. I don't have forever" meaning her clock is ticking.

Me:  "I'm 33 and expecting my first. I'm pretty sure you have plenty of time on your clock."

Girl is 27 and lives with her grandmother. Boyfriend is 30ish and lives with his mother. Girl says marriage is not in the cards at this point.  Why isn't marriage in the cards? Because she doesn't trust him. Girl and her bf have been reunited for a year. They met when she was 19 and dated for five years before he cheated on her, married the other woman and had a kid, then divorced.

Not only is boyfriend a cheater, but children may not be safe around him. Details are sketchy, but it appears he has lost all custody rights to his child. Girl doesn't want to ask for the details because she doesn't want to know. I refrained from slapping her, but OMG I wanted to so badly. Instead I suggested she find out why a father would be denied the right to see his child.

 We'll see how this train wreck plays out.

Was she adopted? That seems to be today's theme.

She's not adopted, but her parents did divorce when she was very young.
