the Pearl family @ "to train up a child" ministries?
Yeah, apparently their methods were 'misunderstood' by ANOTHER (yes, this has happened before) parent...now tried w/ abuse after one of the kids died.
(these are the peeps who think that for a child under 1, you use a willow switch no longer than 1 foot long, w/ all the knots whittled off. But for older kids, 1/4" plubers supply line is the best)
Re: so the really scary quiverful fundies that NLQ and the others talked about?
Crap...I Mean Crafts
true, I just tend to think giving people ideas can't help.
I mean, if someone is a moron (and there are lots of those) and Mr. HighlyREspectedHomeschoolGuru says that the problem is that yo'ure not whipping *quite* hard enough... and if you don't keep doing it his way, yoiu don't have enough faith, it might push someone who would otherwise seek outside help or try a different route to carry on in their current stupidity.

Extremists. These are extremists and give a bad name to religion AND makes some people weary of adoption. (I say this, because the one that died and the one in intensive care were the 2 adopted. Not the biological kids. There are many great adoptive parents/kids out there.)
IMHO, a lot of the people that pop up in these stories are probably child beaters and use this "religion" as an excuse. It gives them someone else to blame it on if/when they kill their child.
Sickening.
That would be Mr. Pearl. If you google 'pearls, child abuse' you'll find more than you want to know.
Although y'all are right, these people would have sucked, bad counsel/books/advice notwithstanding. They just might have sucked differently.
