Where to buy work clothes?

Soooooooo I need to pick up some new work clothes. I have like zero. I have two pairs of black pants and one is too tight and one is too big. oye. Anyway, I really want to pick up a suit or two, or at least a couple of pairs of nice work pants. Doesn't have to be super expensive....so where is the best place to shop for work clothes? I'm SO bad at shopping...80% of the stuff I own is from thrift stores. Embarrassed and of course that means most of it doesn't fit me right.

So yeah, I'm going to get to the GTG early Sunday and hopefully find some good stuff....any suggestions for stores? Preferably stores that sell pants in 'short' or better yet by length haha because I hate hemming pants! Oh and reasonably priced is always good Smile

Thanks!

Re: Where to buy work clothes?

  • AT Loft has petite sizes and may even have suits

Banana Republic has petite w/ short pants too I think

JCrew has petite & short pants. If you get a jcrew card, hemming is free (and totally worth it). I think they even do it on final clearance items

  • I second everything Bula said. I will help you find good stuff on clearance if you want! I'm a pro at that, lol :)

The place you're going isnt super fancy, so I don't think you'll need suits-just slacks and blouses.

Want to meet up early and shop? I think Jeni might be joining us early too!

  • Forever 21 is good for basic black pants and knit tops.  I like Ross, Marshalls and TJ Maxx, but I used to buy almost all my work clothes at Bethany Goodwill (right by my house) because they tend to carry high-quality more upscale clothing.

Let me know if you want to go digging!!  I've been jonesing!

  • I always bought my suits at the Limited, they have great suit sales every 6 months or so, where you buy the jacket (around $100) and get the pants for free!!  (pants usually $80-ish)

I'm down to meet early and shop!!

Remind me, I need to find a hot pink tutu for B.

  • I love BR and AT suits.  They are great quality for the price and come in all different lengths.  I've also bought a few suits/slacks from Macy's - there are sometimes great sales, but I think last weekend was the big President's Day sale so they may not have a lot marked down this weekend.

What time are you ladies thinking of meeting?  I want to check out spring accessories =)

  • Thanks for all the input guys. Wow, JCrew sounds amazing with the hemming...cuz yeah even with short sizes I usually need it hemmed :( I'd LOVE help from any of you ladies who actually know what you're doing. I've never bought a single item at JCrew, BR or any of the slightly more up-scale stores...it's usually gap or old navy for me Embarrassed

Scarlett -- thanks for the info, I wasn't sure. Looks like I just need some slacks and some nice shirts then. I really only have like one pair of nice slacks. I still think I'd like to get a suit if I can find a good deal (like the one you mentioned Jen..$100 is great for a suit) so I have one, but slacks are the more important thing right now :)

And I'm willing to meet up whenever! Shopping/CF are my only to-do items on Sunday sooooo I can even get there when the mall opens Wink

  • I'm no help, but I'm for shopping early, too!
  • Chiming in late, but one of my fave places for work clothes is the BR outlet (there's one in Woodburn). They have a petites section, too, which is wonderful! (also a Jcrew and AT Loft outlet there, too!!)

  • I have had a lot of luck at the Van Huesen in Troutdale! Reasonable priced and even coupons and additional % off sale prices...

    Hope that helps!

  • Oh yeah. I am 5'2" and have to get short length-which they have.
