Awesome-Sauce RE climate change

I can't agree with you.  If I get cancer, I don't want my doctor to debate for years on what caused it before we treat it, and I feel the same way about the environment.  As long as the ice caps are melting and ocean temps are rising causing all sorts of bad weather sht to happen, I don't want to wait for centuries of research to prove one reason or another.  I just want to go with the best theory we have yet and try to do what we can.

And if you aren't convinced that anything bad is happening, is cutting down emissions and garbage such a bad thing?  There are other arguments (health purposes, beautification of our surroundings, etc.) that make the efforts worth while.

Why is it bad for people to profit off of something that benefits society?  It's okay to make your money building giant box stores and subdivisions or selling cars but not off of developing green energy?  Why is that?

I don't know if climate change is a political issue for you, but it is for a lot of people.  And I don't understand why this has to be a political issue.  You don't have to love the president to want to take care of the planet you live on.

I certainly don't mind that we disagree. And i'm ok with having a discussion about it. (As you seem to also.)

I am ok with things, such as, if people want to recycle.

I'm not against people making money off of the weather. If a person opens a business and provides a service, and another person goes to them. That's their deal. Not mine.

I am against the government (as a whole) taxing things such as man-made global warming. However, if something is proven to be so detrimental, then why not outlaw those things? Taxing something does not make it better. It stays the same and the government makes money.

I could care less which president it is. I'm not his biggest fan. A lot of people do make an issue concerning his race. He's black, but he is also partially white. But my issue with the man-made global warming debate is not with the president.

Have to go to lunch now, i'll be back to finish up.

  • because the gov't has done a great job in outlawing pot, crack, heroin.

no one does those things or gets thrown in jail for being a non-violent offender and end up costing the tax payers millions of dollars to give them three hots and a cot.

  • "developing green energy"

This is my issue.  Right now it's a lot of accounting and bogus credits.  We got millions of dollars for burning ultra-low sulfur diesel.  ULSD was actually WORSE than what we were already burning, but the gov't gave us the money.  Instead of giving money to clean up coal burning power plants they are giving money to convert to "green biomass."  They don't have the technology in place to control it and will ultimately put more crap into the air.  It causes an entire different economic environment for people burning biomass cleanly.  An economy they can't compete in.

DH is at a boiler conference as we speak.  He was supposed to be a participant, but has become an impromptu speaker because of his experience burning biomass.

For my credentials- I was in court with USEPA Region V over environmental issues.  I developed the burning rates of natural gas and biomass for our mill.  I negotiated our air and water permits.  I lead our ULSD program.

  • That's part of my point.  Lawmakers aren't scientists or boilermakers or engineers.  The law is also cumbersome and slow to change.  It's why we got money, a lot of money, to burn diesel fuel for NO REASON and NO HELP to the environment.

Do trans fats harm the enviroment? (Serious questions.)

Please note: in the OP to Zsa I did state that my thoughts were based off of not having being shown enough research that proves that global warming is completely man made.

I do understand that the earth goes through natural periods of warming and cooling on it's own.

I hear people say things like: The earth is being thrust into global warming, because of man-made carbon emisions. (Spelling of emisions??) I just haven't been shown research that says it's not due to natural causes. I'm not saying that research doesn't exist, I haven't been shown it. If anyone can point me in the direction of a reputable scientist/climatologist, I would read the research. Not sure if I said it right, hopefully so.

Well, there's no profit in it yet. And if the government keeps mucking about in it, there won't be. If the government gets the hell out of the way, and the purchasers demand it, there will be profits to be had, and the market will respond.
