Student loans suck

Seriously.

I pay out the asss every month, and I've barely made a dent in my principle balance. I'm trying to get my payments lowered, but it's so.damn.confusing and the "one-on-one counseling" is a joke. They don't know any more than I do.

I need a mangorita.

Re: Student loans suck

  • I did the math yesterday, and if I pay an extra $150 a month, I'll have this loan paid off in 11 years, instead of 21.

  • holy crap, min - is that for undergrad?

This post makes me feel badly that we aren't going to be able to pay for the boys' college. We're putting $$ away, but no way will we be able to save $300k in 18 years unless we turn into EK.

DH paid his undergrad loans off in like 2 years by living at home, working double shifts and every holiday (he was an hourly-paid biochem technician) and basically eating rice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I was lucky enough not to have loans, though I still think my parents were nuts to pay for undergrad.  I got tuition reimbursement from my company for my MS.

  • DG - that is all for the PhDizzle. I paid cash for the undergrad - my own money and some money my grandparents gave me. Grandparents were supposed to help me with graduate school too, but grandmother had a stroke and that changed everything. If you are shocked by my loans, don't be. I took out the minimum. I know some people who pay over $700 a month for just their graduate student loans.

  • I think I'm just going to stay in school and keep deferring that sheez until I drop dead.

  • I was very, very lucky my parents paid what scholarship, internships, and bartending didn't.

DH has loans, but we're down to $2k.  We could pay them, but why?
